I have been away from gaming for awhile .

    I have the following

    i5 2500 CPU 3.30Ghz
    GTX570 GPU
    16 GB Ram
Windows 7.....I know but I am not going to be upgrading it any time soon.

If I just get a new GPU will I be able to play the newer games at 1920 x 1080.

I would like to upgrade the monitor also to play at 1440.

    What do you guys recommend

    Thanks for any info

Res doesn't really matter when it comes to cpu, that 2500 wouild struggle at 720p with some new games.
I'm running my 2080ti off a 10100f, 4 cores with HT, bought new for £85 (amazon).
This cpu struggles with some games and you could say it's twice as powerful as the ol' 2500.
There's many decent cheap cpu/ mobo options these days, a new gpu would start squealing the minute it senses that 2500.

Terrible time to upgrade your GPU. Prices are super inflated, even for low end GPUs.
What budget do you have for the GPU and monitor?

I quick look on newegg and I thought the prices were pretty crazy...LOL

Maybe I will just wait until the prices get some what back to normal before doing an upgrade .

Maybe just play some older games for now....I was wanting to play Red Dead Redemption

Any game recommendations that will run on my specs would be appreciated

look at obtaining a "gaming laptop" as such, some of the older models up to a 2060 are substantially cheaper than actually buying a gpu alone.

alternatively look into geforce now, and stream using cloud hardware.

i could be wrong but he said GTX 570 and his profile says it was once an sli config.
if we go directly by what he posted he should really start new.

OP uses old GTX 570, not RX 570, that's some really old GPU, just a 1.25GB VRAM, too weak for modern games.

I agree about CPU upgrade, it's an old 4c/4t CPU, but GPU has to go too. If OP can find east 2600K (4c/8t) for cheap and OC the damn thing up to 4.xGHz it'll help for sure. Cheap 3770 or OCed 3770K would be nice.

Disabling Spectre and Meltdown mitigations with inSpectre #8 will make a difference in many games for sure,

Isnt it like the best just getting a new system? Something like ryzen 2600/b450/16gb would be decent and not break the bank. Problem is the gpu...

we seem to be of the same taste,

I bought a i7 8750h 32gb 1070 laptop for 300 recently, saw the gpu alone in a shop pre owned for 420 lol

which one did you get? I got it for work, but it’s great to fire up a game on a break quickly.

mines an asus scar strix from around 2018 too. was red hot when i got it, full of dust, replaced the gunk on the gpu and cpu with thermal grizzly paste and pads and now its fine. lovely laptop.

Cost of these gaming laptops, i dont think ill get a full desktop again, could get two laptops for same price.
