I agree with your assessment. I did test at 2M asteroids and 4k, but for reporting I let the app use the "default' which was 2k and 200,000 asteroids. I have a whole record of the 4k and 2M benches, which shows the same trend. Its at the limit of the cards capacity that the driver variations show themselves the most.

    Results / benchmarks aside

    here are some gaming observations:

Chernobylite - micro stutter on 496/497 on max settings and no DLSS. Micro-stutter and smooth game play even during transitions on 466.77

Cyberpunk - micro-stutter apparent on 496/497, no dlss, ray tracing and all settings maxed, except noise vignette and dof. Interesting finding, disabling Resizable Bar resolves this issue in 496/497. Smoother game play in 466 regardless of resizable bar. To be fair, there are some "hitches" with resizable bar on even in 466, RB off gives smoothest performance.

Necromunda - major hitching with 496/497. Interesting discovery, disabling shader cache in 496/497 removes hitching issue to some extent. The 466 and 471 series don't manifest the hitching after the first 15-20 seconds of play. Hitching did remain in 496/497

Metro Ex Enhanced Edition - severe slowdown in 496/497 and chunky stutter, can't find any particular setting that is the smoking gun. Just something is way off with this title and 496/497. However reverting to 471 solved it

Resident Evil Village - slightly chunky/stuttery experience in 496/497, somewhat better in 471 / 466, there are some level load issue that manifest regardless.

Red Dead Redemption - I hesitate using this title, but, when it works (not always), the permeance in vulkan is lackluster despite vulkan multigpu. 496/497 is about the same performance, but causes several return to desktop/crashes without any specific pattern. 466 and 471 provide better stability but the experience is not great.

SOTTR - smooth experience in both driver sets, mgpu support, 466 show an 1100 point advantage on the benchmark over 496/497

ROTTR - smooth performance mgpu title from both drivers, benchmark show a slight advantage to 466. -regardless of driver, the soviet installation level has some level loading chunk/stutter here and there, never had that section run smoothly from day 1.

Sniper 4 - mgpu title, better performance in 466 over 497, There is some texture corruption in 496 that seems resolved in 497.

Zombie Army 4- multi-gpu title. 466 best pereformance over 496/497, nor real anomalies, except little texture curruption in 496 on the italian street near shadows.

Strange brigade (no one plays strange brigade) but I use it as a mini benchmark - mgpu vulkan title, 466 gets 271 FPS at 4k max eye candy, 497 gets 237fps at same settings in the benchmark. No visual anomalies from either driver.

observations - 466.77 is the better mgpu driver, 471.22 is the better overall driver, 496 is the overall worst driver.

In older games, 466 seems to work best

    Hope that helps.

Are you using DX11 or DX12? I've been playing on and off since launch, haven't seen it mentioned in any patch notes that they fixed DX12 yet.

@venturi :( 3 friends and I had a blast with Strange Brigade! It is rare to have co-op games that look good and run so well, we savored it. On to Zombie Army 4......

Do you have integrated graphics drivers installed? I used to have the same problem. I solved it by disabling integrated graphics in the BIOS, and uninstalled the Intel integrated gfx drivers. Idle temps and wattage back to normal.

You are lucky because it drops every 15-20s for me and the driver 466.27 becomes really old...

These drivers are causing crashes in BF2042 for me 3080 Ti 497.09 were fine.

EDIT: Ignore, I think it was unstable RAM XMP

had some strange issues this morning, chrome kept going black so i looked in event view and had a few nvlddmkm crashes while using chrome.
then i got a few blocky artifacts in windows, rebooted and everything is ok now :/
    never happened before 497.29

clear your d3d12 cache in disk cleanup, nothing has changed for bf2042 in this driver.

Do you get crashes under Vulkan on single GPU too?

All stick with 497.09 driver, this one is crap, weird behaviour, performance down compared to previous one, thank you nvidia for this gift

In reference to Red Dead Redemption 2:

Honestly, I got less crashes in single GPU but only if I lower the settings. With high settings I got crashes regardless.
This next statement is an observation without the engineering and scholarly voice it deserves:
--- It is as if the game engine doesn't like the high settings that it allows the user to select in the menu and then the game engine gets lost on a system with deep resources as if it doesn't understand the extended hardware. In example: If I limit the affinity for the exe to 8 cores, the are considerably less hiccups.

RDR2 problems should not be directly correlated to 466 vs 471 vs 497 - the game seems to have its own issues. There are 'less' issues on 466 than 497, but not much less.

    Hope that helps
