Conclusion Today, the performance difference has shrunk to 2.1% at 4K, 0% at 1440p, and 1.2% at Full HD. This means NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3080 is still faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT, but AMD has caught up a lot, and the average difference is small enough that I'd say both cards can be considered equal in terms of performance. Of course, even though we tested 50 games, or maybe because we tested so many games, the performance in specific titles will vary big time. For example, if you play Battlefield V all day, the RX 6800 XT will give you higher framerates. On the other hand, if the games you play are mostly older releases using the DirectX 11 API, NVIDIA will be ahead. That's exactly why I tried to break out specific scenarios, like "DX12 and Vulkan Games Only" or "Games released 2020." -> https://www.techpowerup.com/review/geforce-rtx-3080-vs-radeon-rx-6800-xt-megabench/
Unfortunately they didnt test any games with Ray Tracing enabled. As I always enable RT, those DX12/Vulkan game results dont evaluate my use case. I'm sure why they didnt include them as it would be a whitewash for most games. But still, it would be good to know the difference moving forward so we can see how much AMD improves RT, and will also stand as an incentive for them.
I really dig gestures like the low latency switch and DLSS, something I use tons more than RT. Still, AMD doesn’t offer any of it at the same level. Raw performance is only one part of the equation.
The gap between RT performance is huge and no driver updates will fix it. They will need a new architecture to hopefully match/beat ampere.
This is atm what comes out of my system with this brand new, 1 week, 3080 Suprim X. This is with 496.76 drivers. In reality Gpu frequency averaged arround 2115Mhz
I was only able to get a 3080 through buying an hp omen 30l ... got a 11700k cpu ..built a whole new pc around that card
It sucks that you have to go to those lengths to get a card. I hope you enjoy it as there's still plenty of people without them.
Finally, was able to get a EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra delivered 12/09, through their step-up program. Most definitely uses more power, and heat then my previous 3070 Ti. Hopefully, will be able to purchased another one for my son through the queue system, within the next 2-3 months. They are on 10/16/20, and I signed up on 12/23/20. Evga que appears to be moving faster now.
I also finally manage to get a EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA card for my own build here just before christmas. Lovely, cause now it´s finnally going to be a funny christmas with time to play some games.
The EVGA can be undervolted really nicely, making it extremely quiet. I set my card to run at 1920MHz at 0,86V and the fans will barely hit 60°.
I bought a 3080FE back when the pricing wars just started for retail (699) thinking about selling it and buying a 3080TI should I wait for the 4080 series ? Thank you
seeing as I paid msrp on the FE, I'll get enough to get a TI at msrp with a little work and a Little downtime, lol
