Hi all - Is this fine/safe change all these to "start=4" so these services won't run in my Windows 11? reported disabling those help avoid some stutter issues and improve performance. Any risk in disable anything from these?

If you want your bluetooth, CPU power settings, calendar, printer service, superfetch, push notifications and search indexing to be disabled, sure.

sysmain just caches into unused memory, data from your most used programs, so that they load faster.
Might use a bit of CPU once in a while. And it uses only unused memory.
No other services depend on this service. So it's safe to disable. But You might get longer load times for some programs.
Unless you are having some performance issues with this service, I don't think there is much reason to disable.

wsearch is basically the indexing service, to accelerate searches on your PC.
It has no dependencies below it. So it's safe to disable.
Sometimes it can cause performance issues, with high CPU and disk usage.
So if ever you see your PC or a colleague's PC having weird performance, this is a good place to start looking.
Unless you do a LOT of searches on your PC, it might a good idea to disable this service.

If you want to know a bit more about service configuration, you can try the Black Viper's site.
But be warned, you can (and probably will) break Windows and will have to reinstall.
I used to use this site a long time ago, when I had a weak PC, with windows XP.
At the time, it could save a good amount of memory and CPU performance.
But I did break windows a few times, trying to figure out exactly what was essential.

eh i never saw much diffrence with superprefetche on or off i so i kind just disabled and search i disable cause i rarely if ever do searchs. been doing both for years. maybe superprefetch works better now? i seethe point for it on hdd not so much ssd.

I am one those people that if i dont use and never do i rahter it not running if so long as it not gona cause me issue or problems. hell printer service is disable and i only enable it when i actual need to print

Know about blackvipers site for decade or more now? since win 7? that is where i got most the safe stuff to disable but at this point it only like 3 or 4 thins i disable

its required for the correct behavior of memory compression as well.

never knew that it been off all this time, have not notice anything out of ordinary cause it off? any example of what would happen to memory compression if it is off?

Yes, also memory compression. But that is mostly useful for memory constrained systems.
Some people have reported less stuttering in games after disabling it.

Sysmain is responsible for all of this, so if you need any of it, keep it enabled.
    - Prefetch
    - SuperFetch
    - RAM compression
    - ReadyBoost

if you really dont like that behind than you can disable sysmain with memory compression and page combining via powershell together
    Disable-MMAgent -MemoryCompression
    Disable-MMAgent -PageCombining

If I remember correctly SysMain used to be called SuperFetch in Windows Vista and Windows 7 but got renamed.

It caches the most used programs into memory for faster loading. We used to disable it so that Windows didn't eat away at your RAM or pagefile (some used to disable pagefile too). Also so that it didn't kill your HDD's as upon every boot of Windows RAM is wiped so your Superfetch cache gets deleted and needs to be accessed from the HDD and cached back into memory. This could lead to slow boot times on HDD's and more wear and tear. Even some of the first generation SSD's would benefit from disabling it.

But since then its changed a lot and now it only uses unused memory and does a lot of other things in the background that actually helps speed up your PC over time. Not to forget but we all have A LOT more RAM now than we did back in the Vista and 7 days where 8-12GB RAM was considered overkill :p

Not really. Compression takes CPU time, so it can occur in low end machines.

compression is used throughout windows, the registry included, its not some high latency zip method.

True, but it still uses CPU time.
And in some situations, it might be enough to cause some problems.

  17. Looks like SysMain will make a fine addition to my collection of things to disable :p

You don't need Sysmain or Superfetch for gaming at all, especially if you have ssd's, it will only consume more system RAM to "prefetch" stuff, which is also useless for games.

This might be useful for some people that want better performance.
