Good. I've been saying from the beginning that it would be exceptionally strange if the acquisition was allowed to go through. Anyone actually believing Nvidia's promises about what would happen afterwards is either the most naive person the world has ever seen or is looking forward to making a big buck in the stock market.

Same. Given Nvidia's past behavior, there's no way the face they were putting on show can be true. Last thing we need though is yet another mega corporation.

The most important is ARM... not NVidia (btw they know and are able to do CPU by themself)

Government interfering in mergers and acquisitions. I thought this was not very American.

I kind of low-key want this to happen. It will only push everyone to RISC-V even faster.

There's sometimes a government regulations is not a bad thing. When the government stepped in and stopped Microsoft and Intel's Wintel empire and Microsoft Monopoly control on web browsers. Wasnt such a bad thing.

Nvidia is already too damn big and vastly becoming the asshole Intel was.

It had the potential of challenging the X86 monopoly.

There is no x86 monopoly. Practically all the volume of the CPU market is ARM.

Good. I really hope this merger is stopped at all costs.

Worse than this only if ARM was bought by a chinese state sponsored company...

I was thinking the same thing.

Thankfully, that's not likely to happen since the Chinese government seems to be more focused on MIPS.

Nvidia is many things to many people but one thing they are not is politically savvy.
a wise company would've enlisted the support of both California senators, the governor, and the State Assembly before the bid for ARM.

as ARM is doubly foreign (Japan & Britain) this automatically involves the Federal government, not just for monopoly rulings, but for National Security.
any help from political elites would move the ball forward (excepting anti-trust).
and having home state backing does affect the FTC and its rulings.

    too bad, so sad.
    this deal is toast.

imho, the best option for ARM would be for Crucial or WD to purchase it as they would be cpu/gpu agnostic.

10yrs ago most of you didn't give a crap about ARM and people like me suggesting Nvidia buy ARM back then laughed it off as a joke. Now it's a big deal and so big that the feds have to get involved? lol. It's obviously the future and that future is already here. The real question for me right now is whether Windows Arm can overtake Windows x86. It's 2021, if I had to place a bet, I'd bet on Windows ARM being big in 5yrs time and the majority in 10yrs time. However, this battlefield might be played out more significantly on mobile phones and small form factor PCs, rather than desktops.

We really don't need more huge ass companies we all depend on to merge, that will only be bad long term for consumers.
Nvidia acquiring small startups with talent is Ok but this is not.
Its amazing that Intel finally decided to make GPUs, a new competitor has risen.
It would be bad if AMD, Intel and Nvidia would all merge together. You don't wanna find out how bad, ever.

You are right, they should have brought the politicians onto their side. Which of course would not have made the matter any better, just bring in more corruption and lobbying.
I just have to laugh when it comes to national security issues and this merger. If anything, the US should want this to happen so they have more control over ARM via Nvidia, not less... and don't get started with national security when the products are 90% fabricated in other countries. That's by basis how to not treat national security relevant production.

I have occasionally noticed some American discussion/sentiment about the super corporations already being too big and powerful. That's a national security issue.
