So Call of Duty cheaters got a very ominous warning from Activision
This was posted yesterday, so something will happen today.

I wonder if this is massive ban hammer. Or law suits. Or they'll enforce TPM 2.0 like Valorant did. Or just some empty threat.
What ever it is, it might be fun to watch :)

EA should do something like this too.

'Cheaters' only exist on PC anyway.

I'm all for TPM 2.0 if it slows these clowns down a little!

TPM is a way to get around cheaters? Somehow I instinctively doubt that, sounds like something m$ would tell you to sell their latest OS which happens to have TPM as a mandatory thing.
I doubt it will change much, whatever they do. And if it does, it comes with a price anyway.

TPM is unique identifier for your hardware, you can't change it think of it like IMEI of a mobile phone. If they enforce hardware bans will be against your TPM.

Would make cheating potentially very expensive as you would need change motherboards each time your banned or TPM devices.

I doubt TPM is the only source of unique ID in whole PC platform.

Plus what if rig of no cheater has no TPM?

Well will depend on implementation, will need windows 11 etc and TPM 2.0, could become game requirements aka you can't launch the game without TPM 2.0 enabled.

If TPM2.0 is enforced and the rig doesn't have it then you can't play.

Ban the Fortnite kids so we can enjoy ''cheat'' free gaming.

    Kinda strange thing to do.
Bungie for example inserted anti-cheat into Destiny 2 and made PvP activities not free to play. IMO, better way than to force you to buy a whole new rig.

Hardware bans of the past could be bypassed by spoofing unique identifier codes of hardware too, like changing mac hardware address. TPM at present can't be spoofed, so unless someone comes up with method/hack later on, never say never in PC industry though.

I hardware based id bans become the norm, I can already see people buying some used piece of hardware, and then finding out they can't play their favorite games.

Your not missing much. Unless the game has PVP and a story mode. Microsoft seem to understand that too. Which is why the PVP for the upcoming Halo is free.

They'll probably never become the norm because effective banning is counterproductive financially.
You want it to be just enough effective to ban people on daily basis and force them to buy another account if they want to keep on playing, this way on the front side you filter out cheaters and on the flip side you get a steady revenue from them buying fresh accounts to get banned.

This is way too good of a business to just give up on entirely but nobody will outright admit it because of what it is.

As expensive to buy a new TPM module or mainboard for rigs that don't yet have it in the first place, so you can play e.g. F2P Warzone? Sounds like it's at least not the whole story. I have the feeling that by far not the minority of gamers have a TPM running, I doubt they will make their anti cheat, if it's even that, dependant on hardware that practically nobody has...

Also, we don't yet know anything. For what it's worth, they could just announce the biggest key ban wave yet, which is doing not much I'd say.

I highly doubt cheating players cover potential loss of paying customers, as in 1 cheater probably puts off 10+ paying customers from owning that game or future versions of that game.

    Doesn't apply to Windows 10 PC's though.

Windows 10, supported until at least 2025.

Reminds me that I tried one of the newer UT version and ran about into some cheaters in every instance, dropped it completely after that experience.
It was rare to run into cheaters back in the UT classic days, today it seems way more common which is a shame, since cheating doesn't make the cheaters better at the game and can get people like me to never play a game infested by cheaters again, on top I didn't buy any UT title after.
