I actually wanted to play this game, but hell to the no!!! This is just weird I thought it was just an EVGA 3090 issue but these tweets of others with different cards from different companies seems to point more towards the game it self. Strange how programs like Furmark can be used that stress a GPU to its limits without issues, or programs like Prime95 can be used for CPUs, etc. Yet a game can literally brick a card. Also, how? I thought GPU's, much like other components, have safety measure in place like thermal throttling or shutting down to prevent damage? Can someone more knowledgeable than me please explain how a game can brick a GPU?
Furmark has been known to kill GPUs in the past. This happens due to bad design on these particular models, most probably. Watch this (65) Rambling about RTX 3090s getting bricked by Amazon's New World game - YouTube
Not a EVGA FTW3 he has (or had) a water cooled EVGA 3090!) EDIT: Just watched the beginning again.... HE HAD THE LATEST PATCH!???? He clearly says "so they turned vsync enabled by default"........ and his card still died???
That's actually an FTW3, just the variant with the Hybrid Liquid cooler instead of the normal aircooler, the board is exactly the same. I think they limited the frames to 60 in the menu, not turned Vsync on (since he said he had a 144 Hz Monitor and it was limited at 60FPS). It actually crapped out in the game after leaving the menu, it seems, although the framerate didn't go much above 60 FPS either. So it doesn't look like too high a framerate is to blame.
Everyone playing is on the latest patch, always. The patch with fps limit was introduced after, I'm 99% sure. He posted the video about his dead 3090 yesterday and I think the fps limiting patch was released today.
its just evga cards + whatever cards already were on the way out. honestly this is a good thing, it'll remove a chunk of bad cards from the community and the people reporting all the drivers causing black screens will get new cards and stop polluting driver threads. The Hybrid is an FTW3 equivalent board wise. its not misinformation, the BADLY MADE cards literally overdraw from the pcie slot. XD
What was J2C on about then in his tweet? He mentioned AMD cards as well as Nvidia being effected? Maybe just trolls looking for attention (or a free card?) the more you know..
hes piling all cards into the same boat just because they failed. Theres going to be users who had iffy cards but hadn't realised or experienced signs of it so far that this game is killing at high current operation, the difference between them all is that the EVGA FTW3 cards have demonstrated issues since launch and users continue to pop up with screenshots and logs showing their recently bought card is operating improperly. The FTW3 Rev1.0 users should not experience a card failure - should not, but its still possible if another problem is at play that Buildzoid has highlighted
There is defo something odd about this game. I have a Gigabyte 3070 Master and my card sits at around 220 watts in games like BF5, warzone, overwatch. But in New World it sits at as much as 290 watts! Something is hinky.
Nitro+ 6800XT OC SE, played with capped and uncapped FPS, only issue i have is when in everfall where lots of AMD cards have driver crashing issue if set Object Detail to Very High. Otherwise, no issue regarding heat (~55 capped and 60 uncapped), power, etc.
Yes. Haven't had any technical problems, so i can't speak to that. Otherwise, considering the visuals and 100s of people running around you, i'd say it works fine. And considering it's a launch day, I'd say it works better than most mmos on their best day. I'm really enjoying it. And the game is really popping off. A ton of players and huge server queues. The downside being, if you wanna play on a specific server, you might be sitting in a queue for a while.
