Let's see how much faster and improved performance per dollar is gonna be against rx 580. I am happy with Polaris but it is aging like my old xbox one x. Plays good but it isn't a series x console.

In this situation one should be happy with anything he have. :)

6600xt is rummored to have same or very close performance to 5700xt. Price can be a dealbreaker.

I believe Polaris users are eager for black friday to pick 6700xt/6600xt with equal or less money than late 500 series.

AMD, I can spend 200€-ish. Better have your price right, I wouldn't fall for anything higher than 250€ tops
    Huh, a 128-bit card?

There is 32mb of infinity cache on top of that 128bit bus.

In other times, a card like this would be at around 200$.
But in 2021 and with Lisa Su's strategy of AMD not being the budget brand, it's very likely to be at 400$

$400 or even more, if it is possible.

No price rumour yet means they're waiting until the last minute to decide on the highest price possible.
They know it will sell, everything. They just need to price it accordingly to what the competition has.
I'd love to get me an RX6600 to replace my RX580 before it dies, have it undervolted and underclocked to avoid crashing and artefacts.

Mine is overvolted and overclocked. :D

Performs without issues and still going strong.

I think AMD should price it at $200, so they can make no profit, hire no new people or spend any money on R&D, and run the company into the ground. That would be my strategy because I'm a Guru3D user and I know better than a PhD in Engineering from MIT.

I do wonder how ATI and nVidia managed to make cards at 200$ price point, for over 20 years.....

Just look at that card. It's small, has a simple power system, no big cooler with lots of heat pipes, only has 8GB of GDDR6, etc.

In my post I pointed out R&D and employees. Did anything about those numbers change over 20 years with either one of these companies?

What else would drive the cost to go up? Has manufacturing changed? Did Fab plants for 180nm, 20 years ago, cost $20B to create like they do now? Did they require machines with precision that require physicists to literally discover new physics to develop like they do at ASML? Design supercomputers like Cadence systems to help engineers wrap their head around the mind boggling number of transistors on today's chips?

Even if you ignore the massive increases in costs to make these things happen - inflation alone makes a $200 chip in 2000 be $330 today.

    Wait, let's get things straight.
Nobody said that AMD have to sell just to be present in the market and go bankrupt. There is more than that.
I think that overall price inflation, scarcity of materials and mining have affected GPU prices. Can you agree on this?
We want a reasonable price, nothing more. Problem is what exactly (or how much money) both sides see as reasonable.
As @Horus-Anhur mentioned, all these years AMD just sold at a loss and have not invested in R&D and innovate, or switch to a newer fab node, being able to produce cheaper chips form one wafer? Or past two years haven't they manage to make big profit from crypto craze?
    I wonder...

I'm sure yours isn't an Asus Dual made by Palit. My friend has the same board and died within 1 year.

I do not think we will ever see GPUs at $200 again.
None that will play games reasonably.

Yes things did change in twenty years. I still remember buying a TNT2 Ultra for little over 200 euros. This was the high end of the era, with the best process node of the time, large amount of ram, etc.
Today, 200 euros can't even get you a mid range card.
But just a few years ago, you could get a mid range card for 250 euros. Like the GTX 1060 6GB and the RX 580.
This was not a long time ago. And these cards had bigger coolers, more robust power delivery, were made on the best process node of the time, and the 580 even had 8GB of vram.
How can you justify an almost doubling of price in just a couple of generations?
