Why is the 3080ti so slow?

Not trolling but serious question I'm probably going to get a 3080ti very soon.

The 3080ti has ~118% more gpu cores but only manages ~12% performance improvement on average.

Is that all down to the 3080 boosting higher out of the box?

 

because the architecture isn't just cuda cores.

 

If you can get the 3080 cheaper, do not waste your money on the Ti, take it from a moneywaster.

Because nvidia slapped a GPU together willy-nilly that they sell at a ridiculous price since they know people would buy it anyway. With the market being what it is this year, you don't need good design. Just throw some crap together and sell it at whatever price point you want.

The problem is that this card costs 71% more money than the 3080, but only offers 8-10% higher perf than the 3080.

It's not just bad, it's actually offensive. More so when considering that nvidia, not long before they released this, made a public statement that said "we care about gamers." It's clear that nvidia knew that people can't buy 3080s right now, so lets scalp our customers ourselves. That's how much they "care."

 

OK i get the hate i've been seeing on youtube about it now, so this card perhaps heralds new gpu pricing to the market then.
i.e. 3080 super /4080 is gonna be 1K.

 

That's the thing, you can get a decent AIB 3080ti for not much more than a 3080. If I'm going to spend stupid money, a few bucks more doesn't make much difference.

I've trawled the net. It seems that the 3080 does boost higher out of the box which more or less explains the 'missing' performance on the 3080ti.

Hopefully, maxing the power slider on the 3080ti will allow it to stretch it's legs a bit but I know, it's bad bad value card!

 

To be fair pretty much every card is bad value at the moment. Owner of one here.

Where I live the price between the Asus TUF RTX3080 10G Gaming and
Asus TUF RTX3080 Ti 12G Gaming is slightly above 46 USD I think (Not the OC versions).
Not sure about price difference is other places around the world thou.

Considering current prices on other cards that is pretty nice for 2GB extra memory,
you can always clock it up to 3090 or 3080 clocks.
That said prices might drop later and there are rumor about 30xx super refresh.

Either way hope you do not have to wait to long.

NVidia stockholm syndrome. People get scalped by nvidia directly now, but they say "nice." lmao.

 

You can get 3080 FEs in the UK for that price and good AIB cards for 8% more. The leap in price to a 3080ti isn't much from there, just like the increase in performance

But I've had a 5300x1440 240hz screen for a year now and a bunch of games that I refuse to play at 30fps so am going to jump now. I know it's distasteful to some but I have the money and feel like I'm ready to do something stupid.

I've ordered a 3080ti Vision OC. It was 30% more than a 3080FE which is pretty good when you look at it like that

I hope that I can get at least 1/3 of the money back from selling my 2080S Strix OC, it's the best 2080S so there should be some interest.

 

How about the 6900XTXH that is about 5% faster than normal 6900XT and AMD is selling them for over 2.2x the price 6900XT LMAO (~2500usd on avg), these cards are sitting on shelves in droves at Microcenter along with 6700XT at 1000usd.

 

Just as bad.
