So, it will change so thoroughly, that suddenly I won't be able to continue? Of course it's their choice. My PC runs well and smoothly at the moment.

Even the 'leaked' build was installed in weaker rigs than mine. That is called discrimination, they want to cut the clutter. I know it's their product, but!

No TPM header on my ROG Z490-E mb but I found the Intel PTT in the bios: Advance > PCH-FW > PTT and set it to Enable. Good 2 go now.

Err..what? The 5900X is an AMD CPU that came out last November. The tool is bonkers and is for some reason unable to identify it properly.

Sorry, that is my fault. When you said your 5900 was 5 years old I automatically thought of the intel 59xx series that was being sold about 5 years ago.....I didn't detect the sarcasm. You are correct, that one should just need to have it enabled in the bios and 100% good to go.

How is it their choice that you opted in as Insider? Did you read the text presented to you before clicking the button?
Think it even states something around that you might be forced to do a fresh install.
Not sure how MS will handle the difference, but my guess is that you will get a choice between staying on the W10 21H2 build or move on to the W11 build.

As for W11, bad luck if you won't be able to use the release (although I think there will be workarounds but at the cost of some limitations).
You can still run W10 which will have 21H2 available, the features that you will be able to run on your system will be there, the rest seems to be tied to newer hardware.

Note that the leaked build does not include the hardware specific features, such as DirectStorage which requires that you upgrade your hardware regardless.

CSM disabled and fTPM enabled should get that 5900X through, try to redownload the tool since they did a bugfix today.

Looks like my PC is out of luck (atleast for now). Its a SandyBridge-E (i7 3930K). I have Secure Boot and UEFI enabled, but could not find TPM setting in BIOS. The tool says the PC is not compatible :(

EDIT: Ran the newer version of the tool and it says the processor is not supported. Well That's Fantastic! (WTF)

On a site note, I don't think there will be any benefit running your system on Windows 11 over Windows 10 21H2.
The separation seems to be all about features found on newer hardware.

I tried the bugfix, now the tool won't even launch :D Needless to say, this doesn't imbue me with confidence ;) It's ok, I know the CPU and the mobo are compatible, sooner or later this will get sorted. It's not like this whole kerfuffle isn't vintage Microsoft. I still remember when win98 BSODed on stage.

Bit odd that it won't launch since we got close to the same hardware.

@mackintosh Try run the installer again worked for me after bugfix. :)

I know it is wiki but still a nice read. :p
I wanted to know more about Trusted computing/TPM and so on.
Must admit it made me unsure cause that is a long list of cons.

    Wiki Trusted computing
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Computing

    Key concepts
    1. Endorsement key
    2. Secure input and output
    3. Memory curtaining / protected execution
    4. Sealed storage
    5. Remote attestation
    6. Trusted Third Party (TTP)
    "pros"
    -Digital rights management
    -Preventing cheating in online games
-Verification of remote computation for grid computing

    cons
    -Digital rights management
    -Users unable to modify software
-Users unable to exercise legal rights
-Users vulnerable to vendor withdrawal of service
    -Users unable to override
    -Loss of anonymity
    -TCG specification interoperability problems
    -Shutting out of competing products
-Trust anything that is authenticated by or encrypted by a TPM or a Trusted computer,
an end user has to trust the company that made the chip, the company that designed the chip,
the companies allowed to make software for the chip, and the ability and interest of those
companies not to compromise the whole process

I would go with PTT if possible. Computers with Intel PTT support the same root of trust concepts enabled by hardware-based TPM without requiring dedicated processing or memory resources.

Well.... scalpers have indeed bought up all TPM 2.0 units.

SSE 4.1 is the hard floor to run windows 11
TPM is a soft-block in the installer and isn't required by the kernel once installed, microsoft is playing us for fools.

R4BE is the only asus x79 board with a TPM header.

Patched ISO's will be made available to give microsoft the finger and run 11 on all sse 4.1 capable hardare.

You can't make that statement with any sort of certainty.

Managed to get up to scratch on my main rig with fTPM enabled in BIOS, but my other two rigs with 3960X and 4770K aren't supported, that sucked.

I guess that would mean you can enable ftpm in the bios, install 11, then restart and set ftpm back to it's default value of "off" and the os will boot and run fine?

Correct, microsoft cannot place a hard requirement for TPM in the Kernel itself because Windows is expected to operate on virtual machines.

platform TPM cannot be passed through to guests.
VM's can emulate TPM, but this not like fTPM and isn't utilising hardware TPM at all (most VM software doesn't have tpm emulation)

Gunna laugh when people just move their disk between hardware and a vm to install windows 11 yearly updates.

Good guy Microsoft forcing you to upgrade. Your 3930K no matter how much you overclock it is going to bottleneck even a Vega 64 in some cases. And by some, I mean most likely a lot.
