AMD Radeon RX 6600XT with 8GB memory pops up EEC

Took them long enough. 6600xt and 3050ti should have been here months ago.

 

Now that's the true cheap trade upgrade for AMD 390/390X/480/580/590 and all GTX users waiting for. Much less consumption, a little bit of ray tracing and a little more performance. ~8GB-10GB is enough for 1080p ultra/1440p high/very high gaming. ~12-16GB is for 1440p ultra/4k any.

 

Heard a rumor it performs similar to 5700xt. Thats a decent 1440p card even at ultra settings most of the time. Now the price...

 

5700xt plus ray tracing isn't so bad. That would be the perfect low to mid ranger!

 

Even if it's stronger than 390 thanks to the much higher clocks and modern architecture, psychologically I wouldn't feel like I upgraded anything if I got this card to replace my 390. After all, 390 was upper mainstream in its time, while this 6600 XT is lower mainstream.

 

6700xt 12gb should be the upgrade path. I think 390 and 580 users should look for.

 

Yeah, before the mining craze made all video cards either disappear or cost twice as much as they should, it was either 3060 Ti or 6700 XT I was considering.

 

I break 8gb playing 3840x1080 on my 6800xt.
And even would max out my 5700xt when i had it


This 6600xt would be perfect for my HTPC that is currently stuck on a GT 1030 2gb.

 

I take it you must do transcoding on that PC, or perhaps watch 8K content? Because a 1030 ought to be plenty good enough. Even Intel graphics are perfectly fine at playing 4K content smoothly.

 

I know its wishful thinking but if I could find RX6600XT or even RX6600 at MSRP, I'd replace my RX580 with it.

 

Might not be wishful thinking for too much longer. China has been shutting down a lot of crypto mining, so hardware might finally be more available pretty soon.

Hope so.
I predict two things:
One - We will have the "new MSRP" for GPUs for Black Friday as discounted prices.
Two - the GURU3D GPU contest for this year will be MASSIVE.
I want to be wrong on both predictions.

 

Its a big help if the hardware actually leaves China, but it will be another full year before we can buy GPUs at MSRP: I had to wait till end 2019 to buy my RX580 I couldn't buy in 2017 because of mining, so this will be a long wait again.

 

Plan on MSRP's to be higher. I doubt they will ever be at levels they once were. The new normal.

 

Agreed, but keep in mind this also means the Chinese won't be buying new stock. It definitely will take some time until we see prices level out, but the good news is they will be dropping. That being said:

I've been thinking the same. Scalpers and miners told manufacturers and OEMs how much people are willing to spend. However, the RTX 2000 series sold pretty poorly (at least when it was still new) and I think the 3000 series being cheaper was because Nvidia realized what consumers weren't willing to pay. Scalpers won't have an advantage if supply is outpacing demand, and demand will stay lower if there isn't enough of a miner market. So, I think we can safely assume next-gen hardware will have an over-inflated MSRP, but the generation after that might be more sensible. At least, if a new cryptocurrency isn't invented...

 

RTX 2k sold poorly mainly because it was bad. The super cards were ok but the original cards were not good at all. They were barely an upgrade over pascal when you ignore ray tracing. DLSS 1.0 sucked. There was not much ray tracing games on the market and at first most of them did not look any better than their shaders counterpart. Combined with the price the original cards were pretty much DOA. If RTX 4k is good i'm afraid people will pay. 500$ USD will probably be the new entry level price and anything under that will perform like if it was the previous gen entry level re-branded.

Will likely go this way. An halo product at over a grand (80 Ti or 90). Then a 80 at around 700-800$ US. Then a 70 that will perform like a previous gen 80 at around 550-600$. Then a 60 that perform like a preview gen 70 for around 425-450$. Then anything below that will perform like the previous gen entry level cards. Hope i'm wrong.

 

looking at the mobile part perforce is not bad for the low end gamer but the real problem is supply and pricing with AMD taking advantage of the current market situation and jacking up price beyond what it is worth for the performance level.

 

No, its just not my HTPC but my portable gaming rig. The GPU died in it, RX 480 nitro.
R5 1600 AF, 16GB 3200, 128nvme for OS, 1TB SSD for games. Fractual 212 Node case. Its not much bigger then an XBOX One.
