I didn't watch the original, i'll check this out though, Jorge Masvidal (ufc star) was used as inspiration for 'Cole'. Glad it's not another super-hero flick.

The original wasn't bad for its time but it was only pg-13 and this one looks to be a lot more brutal which it should be, don't even bother watching the sequel. I love Mortal Kombat though, I've been a huge fan since I was 12.

I follow a few movie reviewers on youtube and everyone views original as cult classic.

It did do the game justice and I still consider it the best video game to movie adaptation. And yea you could say it is kind of a cult film, I mean if I'm flippin through channels and I see its on I'll always watch it again. :D

Just watched Mortal Kombat 2021, honestly it was very meh. It did some things right here and there but it did a lot very wrong. Mortal Kombat 1995 is still imo the best video game to movie adaptation.

Without spoiling it I'll just say that none of the fights came close to the level of Johnny Cage VS Scorpion in the original, or Liu Kang VS Reptile.

I think the movie tried to take itself too seriously which you can't do when you have humans fighting other beings from a different realm. Oh well, I got HBO Max for a month.

I watched the1968 film Barberella. What a fantastically stupid film and you get to see Fonda's Lillies. What a beautiful women/girl. Jane must be really proud that she made this film as we currently live in an age of women bitch fitting about them being wanted.
If I was a women I think it would be nice to be wanted.
Hey, women belong on a pedestal. We need movies like Barberella to put them back on it.
Its a tough call but maybe Barberella tops The Fifth Element?

Original MK is great. It is great not because of story or CGI. Both are simple. It is great because of characters (actors).
    Similar is:

Those movies were fun to watch.
    = = = =
@jbscotchman : Original Liu Kang vs Reptile had reminded me of one thing new movie is missing. It is music. Those beats were epic for time.
It is like playing Earth 2140 with or without soundtrack. 1/2 of game's experience was gone w/o music.

New movie tried to explain some things that did not really need to be explained while ignoring others. Did no service to people who know in/outs of MK as it did not deepen story/knowledge. Did no service to new people to MK as what they explained was not sufficient and some things may have left them confused.
I think that events should have been narrated in places. Maybe even as simply as Raiden reminding himself in his thoughts.

Ouch. Raiden. Why? That was some bad acting. I could see those laughable facial expressions of his even through lightning CGI. And as not to give spoiler, they killed 2 best characters in this particular movie. Where one may have way back as of MK lore goes. And other is likely lost or will have chance to get back if Shang Tsung is defeated in MK3 movie. But that idea is stretching/bending MK a lot.

Movie could have been better, but that's what we get when it is made be 1st-time-film-maker + dude-that-broke-WW1984. If they learn from bad feedback 1st movie got, 2nd one or character spinoffs can be much better. Young one they killed needs spinoff-prequel as he was awesome. And I hope that if they go and bend MK, it will be to get him back for 3rd movie.

Other problem with movie is that new-guy was practically useless sidekick. And when he was "helping" it was kind of like interfering with great fight which would be much better without him.

And last problem is art style. 1st arc of movie looks like it was made by someone uncredited who knew their trade and then it became Brazil Telenovela "art" style.

Now that movie is a cult classic! I quote Jack Burton at least once a day.
