come on, you know that's not MSRP. Try getting a 3080 for $699

If something is best of the best and under massive demand, especially during a pandemic, it seems suppliers take advantage - nothing to do with AMD.

The 5950X has 16 cores and 32 threads.
That's double of what the 11900K has.

The 5800X has the same 8C16T, but costs less than 11990K. And has better IPC.

That is a nice system but it would not be possible if intel didnt start loosing cpu race and become a budget champ.

That is a good setup, nice choices ! I almost did the same and went for the 10600k which one store in the UK had at a really good price. And the overclocking is proper overclocking not tweaking like on the latest Zen 3 too eek out some Mhz.

Having said that I actually went 5800 AMD as I wanted the PCIe4 and quite fancied trying something different to learn about AMD again. My last AMD cpu was a K7 athlon type thing with a VIA chipset !

It's good that we have two choices now and you can make arguments for both :D We need to burn the die hard fanboys at the stake ... it's all about your wallet and what you need and bang for buck...

Not so sure about this. 3900x is around 420EUR and you could use a cheaper motherboard. I think I'd rather pay a little more and go 12 core AMD last gen

Uh... 3090 is not the problem. I could order one immediately and get it in a couple of days from the store's own stock. I could even choose from several models. It's everything below the 3090 that's nonexistent outside of miners' caves and a few lucky real people here and there. 5900X at least seems to be flowing in in understandable, if low, numbers, though you'd need to queue for it. It's not like the video cards that are shipped from the factories straight into miners' hands, aside from a side trickle that retailers all over the world are fighting over, like a pack of starving vultures.

Apparently the premium is also due to the wafer shortage for everyone, no more discounts for big customers like AMD.

Completely agree. Rocket Lake is almost useless.

I don´t see a problem with that, we need a budget option, specially on the GPU side...

The fact that your friend got a lucky draw with mems and cpu and had a friend that helped him set it up, that does not mean this is the standard intel offering.
10700k is indeed a great cpu for 290 eur, and you should not get above that for gaming probably. But the same can probably be said for the 3800x

Indeed, I'm a little shocked that people haven't read up on these chips. They're older Ice Lake CPU dies with the new Xe iGPU attached, which is why they only have 8 cores. In other words, this is still the 10nm "Tick" cpu, despite the fact that it's been almost 2 years since they launched it. It's pretty proven that first chips built on a new process from Intel never turn out well, it's better to save your money and wait.

Whereas you could cool a Zen 3 chip with a Noctua or other mid-high end heatsink and still get the same low noise at a fraction of the expense...

There is no problems with 11700k an Noctua. So your point is?

    11700kf is 22% cheaper than 5800x :) Atleast here in Norway. 4100kr VS 5000kr.

11700kf runs about ~5.1ghz all core and 5800x runs about ~4600mhz all core. Who will win in price/performance in gaming? Time will show :)

PS: I don't know a good reason for buying a 8 core in 2021, so actually I don't care about Rocketlake. I'm just testing 11700k and 11900k for fun :D

dead in the water at those prices.only advantage is pcie4.I'd pay a 10% premium for that, but no way I'm paying 30% over 10th gen.
either go for 10th gen i7/i9,they're selling cheap,or wait for lga1700.
amd can keep selling r5000 at those prices for the desperate.

    almost 35% here.
    1350 vs 2050. 66% of the price
btw 4100 is 18% less than 5000.it's enough to make you reconsider cause 5800x is better.
well 5800x is not 30% faster.more like a couple of percent.so you know the answer.

If RL fails to beat Zen 3 in games, can we call Intel a liar?

5600X is very close to the 10700 in multithread applications. Check results. If the 11700 is slower than the 10700, than the 5600X is even closer to it. And in games, the 5600X is expected to beat the 11700. Stock cooler included vs. no cooler. B450 much cheaper than B560.

I hope you told the same when 1000, 2000 and 3000 series launched and Intel was much more expensive and only giving 5-6% in FHD gaming with the actual top-tier GPU.

With brute force yeah 4.6 all core is "normal" but is the low end considering that many with AIO getting 5.05 all core to 5.1 2-core

I never had a good experience with FSB overclocking, with the only exception being the Celeron 300A.
