    Hello fellow gurus!
As it happens I need to make a decision, I need to buy a CPU for my HTPC. Will drive a 43" TV screen, 4K .
Long story short, sold my previous HTPC at a reasonable price, it was a 2200G +B450 combo.
Now, I have a Asrock Deskmini X300, but no CPU.
    I am still undecided.
    3400G "older" tech 4C/8T Vega 11.
    4650 new tech 6C/12T Vega 8o_O
    4750G insane price, 8V/16T.
    Opinions?

Found some used 3400G for 150-160 euros.
Am I wrong thinking about getting the 3400G now for that price and later, much later on upgrade to a more available and cheaper 4650G (hopefully)?

I dont think they will just get a 3400g if you need a cpu right now.

    Sorry, I don't follow.
As in I need more than a CPU right now, or what?
That 3400G is an APU, CPU+GPU. It's what I need for now.

Ah, I see. Thanks for your opinion.

I am still tempted to go for a 4650G, but I weary of some things.
First, and foremost is the Vega graphics cut down.
Second, the price and buying form eBay.
Third, it is in some aspects better than 3400G but lacks in some others.

The lower heat and lower voltage and increased CPU performance are some pros, but that price is holding me.

Everyone went insane with crypto craziness and increases the retail price of a brand new 3400G.
Used is almost at MSRP. Or a bit cheaper.
What is wrong with you, world?

    Guys, what do you recommend?
Amazon warehouse sells a used 3400G for a price am I willing to pay. However, in the item's description says it has very large scratches (bigger that the CPU itself)
It may be that they describe the whole package and the cardboard box is indeed damaged.
    Would you buy it?

I've searched for used 3400G, full of shady sellers and almost all apply no return policy.
Certainly, these are not times to build a PC/HTPC.

I wouldn't buy a used CPU with large/deep scratches on the IHS or even worse, on the PCB. Large scratches will cause poor contact with heatsink and you can't overfill with paste either. You are probably better off with buying regular intel i3 35W with a board either new or used and sell your board to some 'miner'.

I have already purchased the Asrock Deskmini X300 so Intel CPU/motherboard is out of the question.
What I don't know if Amazon warehouse is saying that the scratches are on the cardboard box or the CPU itself.
However, there is always the return policy.

    price ?

it sucks there has been no progress since 1st gen apus (2400g) and they're still using vega
imo it's a bad investment any way you look at it.it's a weak igpu and with 3400g you're limited by ram clocks too on zen+

still,I'd prolly buy the 3400g,push the core, try to get a decent b-die bin and try for 3333/3400mhz

Price is 150€ plus a trifle more for shipping.
Yes, slow advance on APU front, but I like AM4 socket for the CPU support.
For a HTPC, Vega 11 is more or less enough, I am not planning to run AAA games on it.
If anything, the most intensive game I ran on my 2200G was Portal and it ran just fine.

I would verify that before purchase, however I assume the scratches mentioned are on the CPU, scratches on the packaging do not impact functionality, so why would they mention it.

seems that for now eBay is where I can buy it new at a "reasonable price"
Never, ever have this happen to me, unable to buy something for low availability.
    Screw crypto craziness.

Well, I bought a 3400G new from AliExpress for 165€, OEM tray version. No need the box+cooler, as I bought already a Noctua NH-L9a-AM4.
All I have to do now is wait.

meanwhile I am waiting for the CPU to arrive, I've managed to snag a Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 used directly from amazon.de for 25 euros Viel dank
Came today at my door intact, just the box was opened and resealed by Noctua itself.
    Very nice piece of hardware.

Got the CPU today, powered the Asrock Deskmini X300 and went straight to 3200 MHz on RAM.
    Crucial 3200 DDR4 SODIMMS FTW
