Yeah, NVME Drives are no longer the sexy up and coming thing. Samsung isn't putting in the energy they used to.

The not PRO or EVO version already existed in asia.
By luck SSD's price have just get a bit up... And are in stock (and in march sale in a few).
(No Intel aviability, no GPU either and few APU from AMD have restricted the SSD sales and so it doesn't get stratospheric price, like a GTX 3090 that reached 3000 Euro and even more stupid was sold lol)

So what's the point of this? It appears to be worse then a 970 but costs more? Huh?

    I don't get it :-/

The point is by adding a +10 to the model number it allows em to make more profit selling a cheaper product at a higher price!

150 for 1TB and 3.0 at that? Not the 970 evo plus prices are much better

The prices on NMVe need to come down not go up

Money grab that will only harm their brand.
    Stupid.

I bought the Sabrent Rocket 1TB for £96 inc 20% VAT a few weeks ago.
    Waaaay better performance and value

which one cause the one that 7000mb is 200$ assuming you mean the 3000mb ?

I think the Cost of NVMe are money grab to begin with and there keep high far as long as they can just like the keep trying for SSD (sata) use to me Sata drive are SSD and And these drive are NVMe even though to they call them SSD too

    NVMEs are SSDs.

As i stated i call them NVMe not SSD cause there not same as far as i concerned

Strictly call SSD cause has no mechanically parts is missleading , by that term the storage in smartphones/tablets and ipad etc are SSD to but there storage speed any thing but SSD speeds

again just my imo and how I refer to them. I will never call NVMe storage a SSD and when I refer people to SSD they see me as talking to about Sata SSD 960 evo and such

To be fair though, with PCIe-3 NVMEs being capable of over 3GB/s speeds, it's very hard to imagine why you'd need more than that in a consumer product. Most people can't even see a speed difference in practice between a SATA SSD (which usually top out at 600MB/s) and an NVMe.

So I can't fault this product for that. The actual fault seems to be that this looks like a budget-oriented product, yet it costs more than the models with the better specs. Unless there's something in the specs we're missing here. Like expected life span for example. If this came with something like "50% longer life span than the 970 Evo", then it would be worth it for sure.

I'm not sure why you singled me out to say that, I agree in the first place.

The whole 980 series is a downgrade from 970, 980 PRO is TLC instead of MLC e.g.

There is 3 main type of SSD's interface (there is more but obsolete now or for future gen).
-SATA: usefull for big volume as lot less expensive for these volume, slower.
-NVMe: the fastest one but PCIe lane eater
-U2: combine the volume size with the NVMe speed, mainly for entreprise and pro segment, but more and more on regular market, expensive.

The problem with MLC is that it can't reach big volume with a good price... But yes i prefer SLC and MLC over TLC for the security.
But when you see other pro brand that choose QLC (!!!...) ... Samsung is still better.

Does not change the fact there ridiculously expensive, and anything but mainstream other then maybe Sata ones Which again are the only ones "I" will call SSD I call NVMe ~ NVMe and M2 ~ M2 etc etco_O

There is only one type of HDD and there all called that but there calling no less then 3 types of drive SSD which just confusing to Consumer imo. Which another thing i got tried of explain to people when I was ask.

Sorta how the WIFI people renamed there names cause A/B/N/AC/AX wifi was confusing to people.

Again my opinions on what I will call SSD
