The compound series has taken legendary forms by now, as everybody recognizes it. However, previously undiscovered Arctic MX-5 thermal paste has been spotted, and it seems a new revision is to be rel...

I used it once and it tends to create uneven spread over time.Same happened to nth1.It's like they spread too much towards the edge instead of solidifying contact area.I can't remember the term for this.
BQ dc1 was better. No contact degradation over 3 years.

planning to get a 10700F soon, along with an aio.need a good TC recommendation but I'm not gonna use mx5 cause of my experience with mx4 over time.

We've used MX4 for all our in house builds for the last 6 years or so. Not had any reason to stop so far.

Kryonaut.. The stuff is fantastic. https://www.thermal-grizzly.com/en/products/16-kryonaut-en There's also an "extreme" version with better performance. I dont think its meassurable in practical tho.. But if its the same price, go for it.

I heard it scratches the surface of the cooler and ihs

I've used the same 20g tube of MX-4 on every build I've done for around the last 5 years. Maybe 15-20 builds total, including many many repastes.
No scratches, no cracks but I do spread the paste evenly on the cpu and cooling surface each time.

Can't wait for this if it has increased thermal conductivity.

It's what I use in my personal stuff. Seems pretty decent.

I've got a couple of old Ryzen 1xxx and 2xxx for doing BIOS updates. They have been pasted/removed and reused more than 30+ times each. No scratches.

There will be movement where a surface isnt flat.
I suggest the core you are applying paste to has a convex curve.
This will be the reason paste migrates away from the centre, the centre is pressed hard to the heatsink holding the rest of the core away, preventing anything but the centre from having very close contact. This leaves a space which the paste fills.

hence why properly researching your coolers baseplate is a must,

    I have a d15s
like I said, there was no problem on dc1

Nevertheless, it cant happen like that unless the situation is as described.
If DC1 is pretty thick and sets in place quickly, that might be why you see it as an even spread, but you can be sure the paste will be deeper at the edges still.

maybe I overtightenerd my cooler and dc1 took it better
should I leave 1/4 of a turn next time ?
or use the cross/lines method instead of a drop in the center

Stick to the recommended (or as sensible as can be) tightness for your core and cooler.
Its ok, actually preferable, for a curved core centre to be in contact with the cooler, as happens with thinner pastes.
Tightening a lot beyond that could crack it though.
Before I knew about this I did some incredibly tight heatsink mounting and didnt suffer any issues, but that doesnt lessen the risk.
Every new core and each manufacturers cores can have a different construction + ability to withstand overtightening, go careful.

As long as the whole die has paste on it, except perhaps the area touching the heatsink, you cant do better. Always apply it to the curve centre though, it will spread naturally.
You cant change the eventual dispersion of paste by applying it differently, only affect whether the core gets well covered which seems like it was so no worries.

Would be nice to test Arctic MX-5 vs Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme vs Kingpin cooling KPx
