I am looking to grab the 5950x and was curious, if I pick that up now, will the next gen AMD CPU's be compatible with that socket? In case I want to upgrade later this year to whatever they release.
There is no guarantee. This was presumably the last hurrah for the AM4 socket. These 5000 series CPUs is it; end of the road for the AM4 socket.
I meant upgrade, just not from the 5950x. I've been trying to grab it but it is out of stock for months now. I was thinking more along the lines if I grab a shittier AM4 cpu and upgrade to whatever comes out later this year.
Yea I'd say Ryzen 5000 is most likely the end of AM4, but hell it had a great run. I'm using Zen+ on my ASRock B450m Pro 4 but my bios does support up to Zen 3. So it's got a lot of life left in it.
According to interviews with Dr. Lisa Su and Rick Bergman. AMD plans to migrate to the AM5 platform (starting with Zen 4), along with the new DDR5 and USB 4.0 protocols.
Realistically also don't need. I've not used the full speeds of USB 3.2 so and so yet, not PCIe Gen4, I use gigabit ethernet instead of wifi. As an average gamer I'm not missing out much ^^ if.... I read your comment right
