Ahh so resize bar is more than just a simple driver update it also needs a Bios update on the GPU I can see lots of bricked GPUs on the Horizon, seems Nvidia was less than honest in its "we can do that too" release

 

as if people weren't flashing other brand vbios for 10 years.

 

Not everyone is an enthusiast or has the knowledge to do that, here on Guru 3D most folks may be willing to but the majority of everyday users wouldnt want to, and what happens if you do flash and it bricks the GPU is it under warranty?

 

vendor can't deny warranty for flash procedures and tools they provide in their software suites and the components relevant support page.

 

Many if not all AiB already have bios update tools for GPU.
Usually it is one click tool and process is automated

Exactly, if you get a power outage while flashing and bork the process it is not your fault. The manufacturer could ensure this does not happen with installing dual bios functionality which is more than possible and standard on some models so it is their decision to package a product with a potential point of failure. The user does not have a choice but use the method provided by the manufacturer. These days most things do bios/firmware updates on the fly and will get borked with power outage, your tv is probably even set to do automatic updates, it is basically the same thing. Under warranty you cannot be blamed for a bricked card by power outage, if somehow they could prove that you didnt use proper procedures (3rd party flasher or whatnot) then that would be an easy way for them to deny warranty but to my knowledge it is not possible for them to reveal this.

 

So maybe the driver just doesn't enable it unless you have your VBIOS flashed, and everyone is happy.

 

VBIOS update could be problematic since some of the vendors could drag their feet, i hope nVidia will line up their asses on the same page from day 1.

 

That's why if you have expensive electricals you have a ups.

 

Can't wait to get BAR support on my 3090 with the 10900k. My mainboard supports it already, just need a vBios for it.

 

I really hope we get the same performance gain as amd on AC valhalla

 

The most interesting part of the the 3060 presentation was that they didn't show any rasterization performance comparisons to former NV cards, only RTX. That may indicate that it's raw performance could be lower one could expect.

 

Chances are you won't need the 5-10 FPS increase at that point.

 

I am willing to bet 90% of the everyday users have no clue what bar is , a lot of em rock oem systems too if not most.

 

It's funny how we still believe that there are "average users" who purchase $400+ GPUs and CPUs.

 

So this was it? The big reveal is the 12GB 3060? lol

 

don't understand the question in your head,were it available a $330 card around 2070S-2080 performance w. 12GB of vram on a single 8-pin would've sold like effin crazy

thing is - it won't be available before q3-4 2021 in any substantial numbers.
maybe not even then.
