    Just an interesting observation here.

It never happened before, and there it is again!

I just checked task manager and surprise, at idle, it's using up to 15% cpu and is showing as "Very High" under Power Usage. Thanks for pointing this out. I'll kill it when I'm not needing it to play a game or download a free game from them. :)

I should note, this is with an Intel 8700K, so I don't think it's limited to Ryzen CPU's.

Yes, same here never hit even 5% with it the focused app. Played some WWZ last night just to see if anything funny was happening as I saw the news "Epic Launcher heats Ryzen CPU's" so unless it just affects Ryzen only I don't see it.

I am on an Intel 3570k/Z77 MB platform.

    UNINSTALLED!!!!

45-60% CPU usage at idle with Epic launcher minimised! WTF?

The launcher can also wake up a PC from sleep mode. My PS4 Pro (wake up from sleep mode) used to do the same thing. Maybe I'm cursed.

Ok, so the issue is primarily Ryzen based, they must be doing something either that messes with power management or there is maybe a thread conflict with Ryzen. Hopefully, it will be an easy fix to track down.
I wonder if you set affinity to only a few cores on the launcher would help but the problem with that every game will be a child and also get the affinity setting.
You would need something like ProcessLasso to be easily able to set it up.
Probably the best thing would lower the CPU priority as that shouldn't effect any games launched from it.

The last time I installed the Epic store was with an I7 and not a Ryzen based CPU.

Yea I noticed about a week ago my CPU (ryzen 5 1600af) was running 10 degrees warmer than normal. After a little investigating sure enough it was the Epic launcher causing the problem. As soon as I closed it temps immediately started going back down.

Yep.... Surely a bug but you can just close it for now if it matters to you.

Yea I'm not playing anything through Epic now so I just closed it out, but I never minded it running in the background before until I noticed the spike in temps. I'm sure it's something that will get fixed soon.

It's a good idea to not have any of them run at startup, just manually start each one depending on the game.

This. But still, stuff like this and their huge hack are reasons I don't get the launcher on my system if I can avoid it. And then probably just install it and then uninstall asap, running the games via GOG galaxy eventually. But I have not seen the need to do so as I don't have many games on EGS anyway, and none I want to play currently.

Unless something changed recently, all Gog galaxy did is arrange games from different launchers in 1 launcher. However, when you launch an Epic launcher game (as an example), it still launches the Epic Launcher to execute it.

Ah damn, I was hoping it would work without that. Well, not much I'm missing on EGS right now anyway. Thanks for the clarification
