Hi all am just looking to upgrade my monitor and am looking for some advice please, currently I have a HP27xq https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=3WL54AA&opt=ABU&sel=MTO Which I bought last Year but am now looking to move up to 4k with Gsynch however the various specs of monitors is confusing, HD, UHD, panel type, resolution etc etc and as I have a 3090 something with a faster refresh rate but that also has a quick response, I get Migraines from flickering lights so its essential for me that the refresh rate is higher than 60hz as anything below I can see and within 10 mins will trigger a migraine (imagine the fun I had with CRTs!) Curved or flat is not an issue but I want to keep a minimum 27 or more inch screen size, this will be used as a single screen only 2 monitors would be of no use to me, speakers is not important as I have a 5.1 system. I got https://iiyama.com/gl_en/products/g-master-gb3461wqsu-b1/ The other day for my 3090, it's easy on the eyes and wallet. 144hz 3440x1440 Thing is if you go 4k any higher than 60hz ends up a fortune. You don't specifically need a gsync module to use gsync anymore as Nvidia now support it via freesync. To be honest, I'd still not rate this 3x series for fluid 4k at high refresh rates.
Thank you, I did see that one from an earlier post however as an upgrade its only going to give me more width (if I understand it right), I would really like higher quality as well, re the 60hz I did notice that as well hence the question and the emphasis on the 60hz bit
3440x from 2560x would push about 30% more pixels, if I calculated right, as quickly replying on my phone, so it does show more quality.
Ahh ok so the 3440 is in relation to screen size I get it now to make the display wider it would drive more pixels and fill the width with more detail? How does it work with GSynch as its only specified to FreeSynch (as is mine) I was not sure if there was a big difference from what I remember Nvidia enabled it anyway and my current monitor picks it up no problem
i have a 3090 and use a CRG9 Ultrawide, its great. 5120x1440 (2x 1440p monitors next to each other), HDR1000, 120Hz and has zero flicker. The res is 12.5% less pixels than UHD yet seems more. If framerate is an issue it looks close to native res when using 3840x1080 res, I'm talking Cyberpunk It comes pre calibrated and has a very wide gamut, colour quality is excellent. Widescreen gaming draws me in so much more. I also have a samsung Q9FN UHD TV (HDR 2000 + even wider colour gamut) and much prefer the widescreen (and bonus slightly higher fps). Oh yes, its not an official GSync monitor but mine works perfectly. Highly recommended. Warning!!! Dont buy from Amazon, they're shipping faulty refurbs as new. I got mine from Ebuyer ijn the UK, it was brand spanker new. If 120Hz isnt enough, the newer G9 is 240Hz but about twice the price (it was when I bought my 49CRG9 a few months ago).
very nice but my Wife would literally rip off my head and crap down my tubes if I spent that much on a monitor right now bearing in mind have spent almost 4k on my PC/mancave in the last 3 Months I like the idea though but it would also need a new desk, I can see it now "whats this on the bank statment" "I needed a new bigger desk" "oh ok how come" "to go with the new £1000 Monitor I just bought that I had to buy because of the £1400 GPU I also bought when we agreed I would only spend £750.00" "chainsaw starts !" My Wife has Red Hair and Green Eyes she is not to be antagonised lightly lol I think I may wait a few Months after all
In short suggestion summary 4K - not worth to get, need upscale for Windows and Windows 10 Classic Apps will be blur when using upscale. Still not very good for gaming even your GPU is RTX 3090. 1440p - the best resolution, sharp enough, no upscale required, pretty smooth for any games in your RTX 3090 GPU. For monitor aspect ration & screen type (all suggest get 1440p) Wide - 27" to 32", flat screen. Ultrawide - 34" to 40", curve screen. Superultrawide - 49" curve screen. This is the only available size for the moment.
So it looks like what I have is probably the norm for now apart from a higher refresh rate anyone got any opinion on DP vs HDMI 2.1 currently I use DP for gsynch, the monitor also has HDMI 2.0 but you drop to a fixed refresh rate of 144 if you use it.
Only go for DP as DP had more bandwidth for handling the extra hz. Use HDMI only if your GPU had no DP.
