AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT custom models are in development

According to the article, AMD board partners will be allowed to make custom designs based on Navi 21 XTX GPU. The story claims that due to the limited time that was given to AIBs, the first designs should be expected no sooner than early 2021.
AMD has so far made no comments on whether the Radeon RX 6900XT would receive a custom treatment from AIBs, however, it was speculated for a while now and even leaks from AIBs themselves have suggested it will eventually happen.

It is unclear why AMD has so far not confirmed the custom RX 6900 XT series. MyDrivers thinks that AMD might be reluctant to do so, due to the very limited supply of Navi 21 GPU.
It would simply put even more pressure on the company that is currently unable to meet the demand from customers, retailers, and of course, the board partners.

AIBs should have no trouble adopting the RX 6900 XT GPU for their already released custom RX 6800 XT boards. Both SKUs have the exact same clock speeds and power targets.
The RX 6900XT however has a higher GPU frequency limit. According to official AMD reference specifications, the RX 6900 XT requires a more powerful 850W PSU (850W) than RX 6800 XT, which needs a 750W supply unit.

AMD is set to launch its Radeon RX 6900 XT reference SKU on December 8th. The graphics card features 80 Compute Units with 5120 Stream Processors enabled. This is the full-fat variant of the Big Navi that is officially targeting NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 in AMD’s own benchmark comparison.
The graphics card will officially retail at 999 USD, which is 1/3 cheaper than RTX 3090.

Uhm.... EKWB has created a an AMD "package" and will also sell the Waterblock separately for the GPUs.... but IMHO there is really no need.... these beauties can do 2.5GHz on air with stock :)

3Ghz max clock for the 6900xt, AMD totally trailblazing here and i'm blown away tbh.
I tell you folks nvidia better be careful cause once AMD's gen2 RT cards arrive it may be the start of the end for the greens.
Don't get me wrong i love the 60 series and what they're achieving with it but ..70 series may be a total game changer imo.

Seems weird I thought it was memory and bandwidth mostly and with the better availability the 3000 series on GDDR6X should be the clear pick over AMD's unless the infinity cache gives it an edge when not limited such as during high resolution gaming.
The 3060's and 3070's still on GDDR6X should thus be the ones you'd find in these rigs plus clock it down a bit and the efficiency probably goes up even further in how much power they draw and such.

Don't really know how availability is outside of the EU though, 3090's still somewhat around but the pricing makes it a poor choice and there's a larger batch of 3060's coming in so no idea why the 6800's or 6800XT's are so scarce there's just nothing at all and unlikely to be any wider availability until next year whatever quantity AMD and then third parties actually sent over here and how much is going to be coming in until bigger availability becomes a thing.

3080's are in that position too just kinda gone but they're also really good and less than half of some of the 3090 prices so again the 3090's are still stocked due to said pricing and the 3060's should be selling out shortly but had a good batch for the initial shipment which was nice and a bit surprising also.

Wonder what the 6900's will land at assuming there is any wider EU availability in the first place, might be similar to the 3090's where the price/performance or just the price is much higher than the 6800XT's where it's just not viable.

Something like 2000 Euro over the already above normal price 1000 Euro 6800XT there's limited resale value too there compared to 1000 selling for 1200 with the 3080's or 6800XT's after all.
(Or a bit more since the gap up until the next GPU model is a bit larger than usual at the moment.)

I really, really, really hope this goddamn mining thing dies out, for several reasons.

I have been working on finding a nice under volt setting for my 6800XT.
I have now the limits set at 2530MHz @1000mV with the Power Limit slider at 15%.
    No overclock of memory.

I don't have the Hardware to measure GPU power consumption alone, but I did some approximations based on reading from my Corsair HX1200i power supply and subtracting consumption of other component while observing my system's consumption at idle and at GPU stress test.
I come up with ~294W for default 6800XT setting and with my above mentioned under volt I get ~320W which means around 26W more power consumption.

Here are the results from Time Spy. The SAM is enabled. My score at default 6800XT setting with SAM enabled is 17402 points.
That is about 7% higher score. :D

Next days I will test different games to check if these setting are also stable there as they are in Firestrike Extreme Stress test.

Here are the settings that I am using:

The excel graph below show the frequency distribution over the entire Firestrike Extreme Stress test run:

@Turbogear mate, you sure your GPU does not take more than 1.000mV when under load?
Because if GPU decides it don't have enough voltage, it will go over your limit easily.
