NVIDIA Ampere RTX GPUs to get their own “Smart Access Memory (SAM)” tech

    From NVIDIA, re:
SAM: “The capability for resizable BAR is part of the PCI Express spec.
NVIDIA hardware supports this functionality and will enable it on Ampere GPUs through future software updates.
We have it working internally and are seeing similar performance results."

Hard to fit in a tweet, but basically, they're working on enabling the same feature as AMD Smart Access Memory (AMD GPU+CPU=Perf uplift) on both Intel and AMD. No ETA yet.
Doesn't look like it'll be ready before RX 6000 launch, but we'll keep an eye on development.

Always good to get some free performance. interested to see how this compares to AMD's version.

I was waiting for their response.
I dont think there will be as large a gain as hoped because the card max design powers have already been set and we are used to that performance.
It will eat into overclocking headroom which there isnt much of anyway.
But it should help prevent frame time spikes.

I got my Aorus 3080 Master a few days ago ... and i have to say i am really disappointed but im also wondering if i got a bad card.
At stock factory settings the fans ramp up incredibly high to 80+% trying to keep the card at 60c which is super loud.
Switching bios does not do a thing either.

But even when i undervolt it to 250watt or so.... its still way noisier than my 1080 Strix .... which i find amazing considering how much bigger the heatsink is.
Also the left side of the backplate under load is hot to the point where you can not keep a finger on it.

Anyone else have this kind of experience or is it just me?

Have you updated the firmware as well?

Definitely defective, unlike any experience I have read.
If the latest bios doesnt fix it, time to contact the mfr.

Installed that as well but made no difference.
Could you tell me what you get under full load like a bench on loop or a really heavy game?(personally i used observer redux because it makes the card draw the full 350 watt)

On the performance bios it wants to go to 80% fan speed to hit 62c ...... and on the silence bios more of a 70% fan speed to get to 70c.

(small edit ... English is not my native language sorry)

I undervolted my 3080 quite hard, this resulted in a 205W full load draw, compared to the stock 320W. This was achieved with 868mV @ 1870Mhz

I think I found a malfunction in afterburner beta 3, probably it's because evga manages the fans differently or because of the drivers themselves: the driver nvlddmkm.sys was crashing everytime I resumed my pc from sleep (id14 in event log, device disconnected). At first I thought it was my OC and/or downvolting, but actually it was the customized fan profile I set through afterburner causing this behaviour. Could please somebody who owns a ftw3 ultra test this? So, just reset your card to factory settings in order to avoid any "external" interference, set a custom fan profile, go to sleep mode and turn the pc back on. Does the video driver crash? Thanks.

I feel my i7 7820x @ 4.5Ghz is holding back my 3080.. Thinking of getting a 10700k to just balance things out
what do you guys think is the minimum processor to pair with the 3080?

I'd go 10900k if possible cause intel's next desktop is 8 core maximum supposedly, 10700k runs a 2080ti well i imagine a 10th gen i9 would squeeze every last drop of performance outta a 3080 though.
