Rocket Lake at 5.5 GHz could be Intels answer against the Ryzen 9 5950X

    So, here you have 5.5GHz Rocket Lake performing same as 4.9GHz Zen3. And yet you claim 10% higher IPC?
    GG, Way to go about numbers and predictions.

    But you are actually right. Last time intel released IPC improvement numbers they claimed 14% improvement with up to 15% error statement in details. And added that actual 15% error is subject of change.

    If it runs 5.5Ghz stock, it means it will be easy 5.8/5.9 using the new Intel cooler that just came out, Linus made a review and overclocked the 10 core to 5.5 on 4 cores, 5.4 on 6 an the rest 5.3 something like that
    This cooler comes in 2 version EK custom loop and AIO, its old tec or whatever its called cold side/hot side, but finally optimized for home usage and powerfull, has monitoring and so on, safe to use

    We used to call it Peltier. And I remember talking about it some 20 years ago with someone who dreamed about having it as cooling.

    Rocket Lake bringing heterogeneous, little+BIG core setup.
    HUGE CORES = IPC too stronk

    bigLITTLE it may be. AMD was at it too. Methods of running apps on cores with limited instruction set and then switching (freezing, moving, unfreezing) thread to bigger core when complex instruction is needed.

    Really? I thought many cores are good for people interested in workloads or content creation.

    Basically the biggest reason is that the amd cpus have more frametime variety and spikes than intel, which is apparent when looking at 99th procentile. Meaning the experience is less smooth and more stuttery.

    Aside of that, im waiting for the new asus hdmi 2.1 monitors, and will do a cpu upgrade when they launch - meaning next summer... and at that time intel will have the fastest gaming cpus again.

    Pretty sure AMD said they are waiting for OS development to catch up with little big, in order to have bigger gains.
    in other words: possibly yes, but nothing in foreseeable future.

    On Intel's side little big is coming with Alder Lake, not with Rocket Lake as I thought.
    Intel is calling it "Big-BIGGER". 2021 2H, allegedly...

    as long as they keep one upping one another I will be very happy, heck let nvidia join in with some ARM desktop monstrosity, microsoft is already all-in with x86-64 emulator ready

    Ask yourself this question.

    If AMD had statistically less 'frame-time spikes' than Intel, would you be claiming Intel was less smooth and more stuttery?

    I mean, because they are not identical - then by definition, one has to be less smooth and more stuttery, right?

    Did not think I was going to say this but my next gen upgrade 2021/2022
    will depend on if AMD decides to lockout the Nvidia version of SAM or not.
    I already have the beta bios update with SAM support on my MSI Godlike.

    Also since Intel Cryo coolers only pulls about 10W in Cryo mode and they
    can do 5.7GHz to 5.8GHz on a very good sample 10900K. Rocket Lake
    might reach 6.0GHz with a Cryo Cooler and custom EK Waterloop.
    Look from 16:10 and from 18:40.


    There will be AIOs with Cryo cooling too for people like me that do not
    want to build a custom loop. :>

    But I still hope AMD will not lockout the Nvidia version of SAM and
    that they will add their version of Cryo Cooling AIOs too. Because

    I'd love to get me a rocket lake as that was my plan all along, getting a mobo with all the right components for gen4 pcie was a priority.
    I would have gotten an i9, i was hoping for 10 - 12 core i9, but no intel have decided to take a huge step backwards and now i can see the masses going AMD especially when their next-gen arrives. This gen has convinced us, next-gen we'll all go amd.
    Screw intel.

    I think that only is in Unregulated mode, I might be wrong but I think that
    Cryo mode will be much less. Of course depended on how much you push
    all the cores when overclocking or just do an all core like 5.5GHz on
    Rocket Lake.

    A 5000 series AMD CPU could stay at max clocks mostly all the time,
    if AMD decides to add a version for AMD CPUs.

    Not sure how you've come to this conclusion.

    Rocket lake, according to Intel, will have "double digit IPC boost" vs 10th gen Intel.

    Zen 3 already has an IPC benefit over Intel, being 15%-30% better IPC (If you don't believe this go find any and all IPC comparisons of Zen 3 vs Intel 10th gen that compare same clock speed performances and the differences)

    So, somehow, to you, this means that when Intel stated they would have a double digit IPC boost, that it'll be what? 40%? better then 10th gen?

    That seems like a massive, massive hail mary right there. Especially since places have stated it's expected to be "up to" 18%, which means 18% would be best case scenario.

    People do not seem to understand that the difference between Zen 3 and 10th gen Intel is only as small because of how high frequencies Intel gets to.

    While AMD has quite nice lead in terms of IPC now even in gaming it's seen 11%+.

    Clocks ain't IPC gains anyway. Will be interesting to see what Zen3+ or Zen4 brings to the table if Intel brings something more competitive in terms of perf/watt since in that department they are faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar behind.

    IPC = Instructions Per Clock

    If it needs to be clocked with a thermal exchange chiller to get to clocks that MIGHT make it faster (something like almost 1GHz above the 5950x for multi-threaded loads, then it actually has lower IPC.

    Also 35-50% IPC is like two generations worth of error margin right there. Where did you get these numbers?
