Hi, I will be building a new system (with some parts of my old system) for the new 5900x or 5800x (the CAD price will tell). I'm looking for a new motherboard, but there is so many that it's hard to choose.

    What I want:
    - Intel NIC.
    - Good motherboard for overclocking (I don't oc to the absolute limit).
    - My case is a Phanteks Evolv X and has 1x USB 3.1 GEN 2 Type-C and 2x USB 3.0 so it has to support this.
    - The case is also compatible with ASUS Aura Sync and MSI mystic light sync, so it a plus, but not a requirement.
    - 300$ CAD max.

I don't need wifi and the audio codec is of no importance to me.

    The rest of the system:
    - GTX 1080
    - 1 m.2 drive and 2 SSDs
    - F4-3200C16D-32GVK (2x16gb ddr4 3200mhz)
    - Xonar DSX

Do you guys any ideas that fill these requirements?

    Thanks!

I would not worry about overclocking too much with the Ryzen 3 cpu’s , I am sure that the autoboost will push it to the safe limit without Any effort , watch GN video where they play with the liquid nitrogen testing how it affects the AMD cpu , it clearly shows that good cooling is important as the system clocks much higher automatically Compared to basic cooling solutions .

I personally would go with a decent X570 motherboard , but most people will disagree with me on this one and tell you to go with cheaper B550 , your money .

Thanks for the replies! I'm planning to get the NH-D15 for the cooling, but unsure at the moment.

For the X570 or B550, I really don't mind the chipset, but do you have some models to suggest?

I don't value Intel NIC that much so I'll be getting MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI my self.

    The ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 doesn't have a USB 3.1 GEN 2 Type-C header :(.

The MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI does indeed look nice. It's just the NIC. Realtek tends to not be reliable under Linux... I might give it a try.

Dont know if the 5900x 12 core needs the 2 x 8pin power connecting like i think the 3900x or was it the 3950x.....some thing to look in to.

I paired the NH-D15 (two fans) with a 3800X. The cooler is great for what it is able to accomplish. At the same time, it is also what is holding that cpu back. How much, do not know. Have finally decided to dive in the deep end and ordered a custom water loop kit from EK (for starters). With 12 cores that the 5900X offers...8 cores, was already hitting as high as 68~70c fair amount of the time. So do not skimp on the cooling solution. Just so aware, my case is a Thermaltake Core X9 (ginormous fugly case).

I'm running a custom loop (360+240 with 10 fans in push pull) on a 3600X (Temporary CPU till i can pick up a 5900/5950 depending on price) I had a D15S before hand. My high temp doesn't go much over 60c now on an all core load, gaming its lucky to pass 45c. Average temps are about 20c lower (Mid 30s) and my min is now in the mid 20s and this is with the weather changing from cold to much hotter. This is after a Cinebench run. Hope you results as just as good. I've never used water before and im blown away :D

I bought an X570 TUF Wifi and its been good. No issues. Only paid 270aud for it a few months back and i see they're 350ish on Amazon now (wtf). I usually use my machine for mostly gaming so overclocking is mostly useless, better to have the single core boost than a lower all core boost. I would have bought a B550 if they were available at the time. If you need that all core OC maybe go with X570

Any B550, basically, as long as you check reviews so they don't have some design flaws ...

X570 is completely pointless now, as SLI / CrossFire from the gaming perspective are dead, so splitting lanes for the GPU in 8/8 has little to no use.

Most B550 boards don't have Gen 2 USB-C header. Some do but they obviously have less IO options than X570.

X570 is the way to go. Pcie4 is a plus and its not much more expensive than b550. There is no fanless x570 unless you are buying 800$ aorus extreme.

Got the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite which is on the cheaper side, although not on the very bottom. I hope it's enough, don't really want to spend more on a mobo since I use two M.2 modules.

I am in the same boat. Does any NON ASUS X570 or B550 MB have DSO like this feature @ 6:17 time mark:

This would be for a 5600 or 5800 ideally on a B550 due to my budget. I need to save up for that Godzilla GPU 3080 Ti or 6800 XT.
