US yes, but what about the general public and their awareness of this issue. Do only people who follow this tech buy high end graphic cards?

Good thing this was caught so early. I believe the stability issues are the main reason why Ampere is so scarce. Manufacturers pulling back their products to fix them.

Well it looks like I might be locked into an Nvidia card this generation. By good luck or bad, my 65" LG C7 OLED just went bang and smoke poured out the back. LG doesn't supply that model anymore, so the person I spoke to told me I would get the latest version. So 120hz G-Sync compatible and HDMI 2.1. Ill just wait on these issues to get sorted as I use this TV almost purely for gaming.

LG will only swap it for another LG model. I'm ok with that as I do love the OLED screen.

Well you may have an unstable or affected card. You may have to underclock it by 50mhz for stability or return it and wait till issue is resolved. Personally I would not buy anything now and wait for a solid card that does not have any issue.

Personally in your position, I wouldn't be cancelling just yet. There are plenty of consumer protections around to save you if things go wrong.
This story has given us all a better understanding of build quality variations amongst cards, which may be something Hilbert should include in future reviews.
I want to know whether a card uses higher or lower quality components than the benchmark Founders Edition.

    That's what I like to hear ;)

I know this isn't scientifically correct but I've had one CTD so far and that was after playing No Man's Sky for 5 minutes, then I played for another 30 without issues. Yesterday I played RDR2 for 2hrs without CTD and my 3080 were running all these games at ~1995MHz by itself (no OC on my part).

    Fingers crossed :)

Don't cancel. It's possible this problem won't affect you at all since the GPU apparently has to boost to around 2GHz in order to crash. There are different factors that can prevent such a boost to happen:
    1. If your case isn't well ventilated or if it's hot in your room or if the fan curve isn't very aggressive then the GPU temp will rise = clocks will decrease
    2. If you play without Vsync your GPU will always run at max speed decreasing the chance of reaching such boost clocks due to temps
    3. The type of game is obviously also a factor since more demanding games put more pressure on the GPU (Quake II RTX for example)
    4. Resolution is very important since lower resolution makes you CPU bound meaning the GPU has less to do and clocks may increase due to that or the opposite if you play at very high resolutions.

I guess this is obvious for most people here but wanted to post it anyway.

It depends on your expectations and probably how much you paid for it compared to the price of other 3080s.
If the Ventus you receive has the reported issue it might or will be fixed with a BIOS update resulting with the card performing only slightly under 3080 FE levels.
Not a big deal if the card did cost you less and you didn't expect FE performance levels.
