Former CEO of Blizzard founds 2 new game studios with ex-Blizzard devs

Well,good, good, Mr Morhaime start again with new guys & new games.With some new guys from Blizzard who work at D3,SC2 and so on.

Mike Morhaime announced his encore career in the form of a new game company called Dreamhaven. Based in Irvine, California, the firm will create and publish original games under two studios: Secret Door and Moonshot.

Although its good that they're building a new studio with creative people, the trouble is they have none of their old IP's. All those years of work and now their baby has been stolen by Activision. No Starcraft, no Warcraft, no Diablo. And the worst part is, Activision is actively destroying those brands.

 

Blizzard Entertainment operates independently. Anything being destroyed is by their hand. Activision-Blizzard is merely a publisher.

To quote him from his interview ;

“We’re almost trying to create a haven for creators who want an environment that is development friendly, values product, and player experience over short-term financial pressures,” Morhaime said. “We believe in the power of gaming to bring people together and as an escape of the unpleasant things that reality can bring. In that sense, it’s a haven as well. We like the imagery of a lighthouse as a beacon, and that inspires us because we hope that Dreamhaven can be a beacon of hope to others in the industry who share our values and philosophies. There is a better way of approaching business and game creation that can work and be sustainable and be a lot of fun and yield positive results.”

Now that has got to be the most polite way of saying that current blizzard is a trash heap.

Funny how the Blizzard founders and many of the studio's creative minds left the company in droves due to the way Activision's head honchos were treating them. Then Activision made huge cutbacks to Blizzard's customer support team too.

 

Like what? It's a picture.

 

I mean a mixture of World of Warcraft and futuristic. Probably not though.

 

THIS! Most of the OLD Blizzard people were creators and visionaries. Activision is a wall street bank roller beholden to share holders.

Making money hand over fist is fantastic, cannot live without it, but when that is the SOLE purpose of a business built upon the cemetery grounds of creativity and development, something will happen.

Pure corporatism without creative or development balance is bad in the long run and kills creativity.

 

He was one of the founders of Blizzard. He was there from day 1 until he left in 2018. Given the success Blizzard Entertainment had pre-Activision, he obviously knows what he's doing.

Under Activision, money is all that matters...

They had no IP when Blizzard Entertainment was originally founded... It's really not a big deal. It's actually good that they have no previous IP because it forces them to be more creative. They do know the audience that their previous IP catered to so they're not really starting from nothing. They just have to make a game that appeals to that crowd and go from there.

 

Well considering its one of his biggest regrets... he seems to think otherwise on that matter.
