The _nvtopps dl appears to have been built as a debug binary, it has symbols embedded that should usually be stripped out

You may have to load the nvidia ETL's stored in the nvidia corporation folder.

 

I'm currently on 452.22 DCH and I don't see nvtopps loaded into display container or any other processes really, could be the cause of unusual resource usage then?

 

I used the NVSlimmer tool and now it's away. No more low level cpu thrashing.

I have never monitored it before so I don't know how the previous driver behaved.
The CPU won't downclock to 1,2 Ghz as it should at idle, it hovers between 2.2 and 3 Ghz

I believe this dll is a performance counters snapin, responsible for pulling your cpu and memory load into the new GFE overlay, if you don't use GFE there should be no harm in renaming it and restarting the service.

You might be onto something.

I tried to turn off all the HUD stuff in GFE, but while it does seem at first possible, the Performance stuff (which is a variant of the "FPS" field in this new GFE) seems to get automatically reenabled, even though I tried to set it off.

Shutting down Share from its GFE toggle doesn't fix it.

 

Can I ask, are all those seeing the problem on 1909 or 1903?

 

Go to dll file, invoke file properties dialog, switch to details tab and see there - may be they state what this file is for.

uh, the 190x's were 1903 and 1909, the only 1904 is 19041/19042 and is the 20hX releases?

can you check winver?

 

You can open it in depends.exe and see the functions it exports, and functions it imports.

Its ok, there isn't a component service registered to the file even though it loads the provider, seems that was a misdirection.

 

I'm fine now, i'm happy using the nvSlimmer utility, it was a blessing in disguise for me.
System running great don't want to f anything up.

I had the same problem with _NvTopps.dll so I renamed it to _NvTopps.dll~ and CPU behaviour is normal again. I stopped the service NVIDIA Display Container LS, renamed the DLL and again started NVIDIA Display Container LS.
BTW full non-DCH 64-bit driver, W10 2004, DDUed the previous driver. No GFE, no audio, just the driver, USB and Physx

 

It looks like the dll could require one of the fixes in 19041.487+

@toyo can you open the stack info for the _NvTopps.dll!NvPluginGetInfo using the cpu?
