Any Brits upgrading to 3090/3080 and selling a 2080Ti?

I too might just buy a second hand 2080Ti as long as it's cheaper than a 3070. Still be a massive upgrade for me tho.

I think 3070 might land somewhere between 2080S and 2080Ti which should make current 2080Ti's not worth a huge amount.

I'd take the extra 3gb of vram over the 3070 but if theres a 16gb 3070 then i might just go for that card but i won't buy a 3070 with 8gb of vram.

This card is more than double the performance of the 1080 ti and also has ray tracing. Did you even look at benchmarks?

Power is up probably due to Samsung's 8nm. I'm not sure it held them back though.

    It's 60-80% faster than a 2080 on average in 4K.

Gains are even higher in RT than in Rasterized.

2080 is running out of vram in doom nightmare textures at 4k is interesting. Performance increase in almost 30% when using ultra textures is crazy.

Generational leap you say? As in 2080 vs 3080? Let's say on average 50% performance increase at the same price. I'll leave it at that.

HU/Techspot are not a tech-savy site, you seem to ignore that TPU, GameGPU and other sites paint a different picture of the performance/vram story in Doom E 4k Nightmare settings. HU is the only site with that anomalous result.

Or an only credible reviewer that actually tested it and pointed out. Both games 3080 beat 2080 by more than 50% had vram issues at 4k with 8gb.

550$ is a lot for a used 2080ti that could be a mining card with 1-2 years of life left in it, if it even works flawlessly.
I would not be comfortable with sending that kind of money to a person and get a card with no history or warranty.
I would pick up a new 3070 for around 600$, guessing that would be 2080ti performance.

Ok, this is what someone of you feared, 10GB VRAM only
    https://babeltechreviews.com/rtx-3080-arrives-ampere-performance-revealed-35-games-benchmarked/4/

See the result of Ultimate preset for Ghost Recon Breakpoint at 4K

    from site.:

The only benchmark that did not run well on the RTX 3080 is Ghost Recon: Breakpoint – but only on the Ultimate Preset at 3840×2160. Ultimate/4K requires 11GB of vRAM and the RTX 3080 is equipped with 10GB. This is the only benchmark where the RTX 2080 Ti beats the RTX 3080, but dropping to the Ultra Preset returns the RTX 3080 Founders Edition to complete dominance over the $1199 Turing FE flagshi

Nice find! Well, 3080 is officially DOA. Even if one old game shows problems, imagine newer ones. We already know 3080 will not run well Watch Dogs Legion. Breakpoint is one more on the list.

So according to this review from Kitguru, a few games already use more than 8Gbs in 2560x1440 and on 4k some games threaten to reach the 10Gb treshold!

I think this card is going to run out of memory once consoles ports start to appear on PC and i don´t think the card is going to age very well...

Better to keep my 1080Ti and wait for the Super or ti versions of 3080 with extra memory...

After reading two reviews and watching Hardware Unboxed, Gamers Nexus, Digital Foundry, J2C and Hardware Canucs...I'm not so sure upgrading is a good idea anymore. The biggest reason for this is that some say there is a CPU (my 3800X is quite a bit weaker than a 10900K) bottleneck at 1440p (I play at 3440x1440 which is close to 2560x1440) and some say there isn't, but the performance improvement over the 2080Ti is only around 20% at that resolution plus the variation between games is huge as opposed to the difference at 4K (~30%) which is more consistent per game. Sure, I want to game more at 4K but I won't play everything on my TV.

I'm wondering if waiting for the 3080Ti would be the better choice here after all.

Its from the evga b-stock store but yeah I cant justify pulling the trigger on a refurb card with 30% less performance to save $150. I like having 3 year warranties since GPUs can go bad over time
I guess ill just have to suck it up and buy the new PSU. I could wait for a 3080Ti with more vram but my 1070Ti is showing its age pretty badly these days.

No is actually same as the RTX2080Ti.
3080 Perf per watt 0.24 and RTX2080Ti has 0.23. So within margin of error, 2080 is 0.22

    https://hexus.net/tech/reviews/grap...rce-rtx-3080-founders-edition-ampere/?page=17

The 3080 is 26.6% faster than the 2080Ti using 26.5% more power.

While in some game the "lackluster" performance upgrade at lower resolution is due to CPU bottleneck, in other game it is just the game can't use all those cuda cores at that resolution (shader usage go up with res, and Ampere is a shader heavy architecture). The fact that the clock didn't change basically since Pascal, with in game clock around 1.9ghz @ stock isn't helping either. A magic driver won't help in old title, but newer title with a more shader heavy approach could see the 3080 going away at low res.

Is as efficient as the 2080Ti. So not at all.
