It's more about which architecture unifies them. Those classes of devices will continue to exist.

  4. Oh! lol I was kidding because I saw you joking about people trying to tell the future so I made a reference about palm reading (telling one's future)

This most likely won't change anything for the consumer. I imagine Nvidia is doing this to build on their dev kits without having to pay any license, and then in turn gain some licensing fees from some of the big names that license ARM already.

  6. More diversification of their portfolio. It was only a few years ago before AI that NVIDIA was starting to become concerned about their worth with the decline of the (edit) "traditional" dGPU in broader terms (if I recall right?)

    EDIT: I should add

Nvidia will now control the most advanced GPU/AI architecture, the best Data Centre/Interconnect architecture (Mellanox), and the most popular CPU architecture in the world. Do the palm reading yourself :p

Well there's consumer products relying on both Nvidia and ARM right now: Nvidia Shield and its tegra processor.

edit: didn't know the Switch was using a tegra processor.

Apart from their success with the Switch, Tegra seems like an internal project at Nvidia so they will have a department ready that can design CPUs.

Improving profit margin of the Tegra product range could open up some interesting new prospects.

The way i see it Tegra could scale up to be Nvidia answer to AMD/Intel APUs chasing after its core business on the entry/medium level graphic rendering, on mobile device at least.

tegra prices could be dropped with no longer having to pay licensing costs.

    It's all about AI guys.

Nvidia have worked on AI over the years, but ARM are better poised to truly put them over the line.

    I'm calling it.
