Though I'd thought of getting an RTX3080 first, wait for Big Navi, and buy it if it's faster than the RTX3080, or if BN is faster, buy it and sell the RTX3080 (perhaps even using it in my 2nd rig). But, I did something foolish, pre-ordered and paid for a Fold 2 since I love my original Fold (have arranged to sell it back to Samsung) and have gotten quite used to using such a phone. What I'd paid for the phone could have paid for an RTX3090 with some nice spare change, I've decided to hold any purchase till the Big Navi vs RTX3080 question has been answered.

Now that AMD announced the... announcement for October 28th, I will wait for certain.

I'm prepared to wait until mid November when Cyberpunk comes out. I'll buy what's available and in my price range. Will base my decision on performance and features. Thats as long as I'm giving both camps to wow me.

I've never once tried to purchase a GPU on launch day before but I'm finding the lack of a preorder option one week out from release a bit bizarre tbh. I mean, Microsoft have announced that preorders are going live for their new consoles on the 22nd of this month, and that won't be arrived until mid November. Weird, or not? Dunno.

There are no changes to the Encoder from Turing, so there is no acceleration for AV1 encoding in Ampere at the present time.

We might see an updated encoder in the 3030 and 3050.

My wait will probably be until Q1 2021. The game will be patched, x670 will be out, AMD would have probably ironed out their driver and Nvidia should have the 20GB Ti.

after this long wait and following two delays, I'm really hoping that the game will be in top-notch quality on day 1

If I have understood the scope correctly, it will be playable just fine, but it will probably be better later, like most games.

We will probably see it making a difference the moment DirectStorage/RTX I/O is working on a title. From that point on the difference should be massive. I also believe that there will be a difference in Horizon Zero Dawn already at least, and any really massive open world game.

Well I guess I can expect to get an average card since I have terrible luck and I’ve never received a good overclocker ever. Even my Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980ti could only manage a very small overclock.

I had a really bad GTX 580, which was a huge ASUS triple slot card that came with a whopping 10mhz (wtf) OC, needed an additional 0.025v to become stable and had literally 2 more megahertz on the core before needing even more volts. What an absolute POS.

So the 12-pin is capable of 300 watts correct? And that is the same as "TWO" eight pin PCI-E VGA power connectors right? Hence why there is a 12 to x2 8 pin connector.

Unless there is reason for two 12-pin connections on a board I see no real interest in the setup. Especially from an aesthetics point of view.

I get that there will be standard cables here shortly and all, but is this something to setup for PCI-E 5.0?

The 12 pin connector was a board space thing.

I've seen a 12-pin cable from EVGA that went from a two 7-pin connectors into the PSU to the 12-pin for the card but my 2x8pin is just one 7-pin split into 2x8-pin. It powers a Radeon VII but I'm still a bit confused as to whether it will be OK for the 3080.

So what kind of Power Supply would be recommended for the 3080? I'm wondering if my 5+ years-old Antec 750W PSU would run away from that thing or if it would try to take it like a... well like a good Power Supply.
