No one said its not hampered by it at all, it was simply stated that the majority of the performance differences is because of the fact the GPU of the 6GB model is faster then the 3GB. If they were identical, you'd see many situations where there is little to no difference. This is fact.

I misinterpreted that as meaning available to preorder so checked Amazon.uk out of interest. No 3080 but there is a EVGA 2080 SUPER BLACK (none more black?) for £650. Think I'll give that a miss. Nvidia cards don't get discounted, they just vanish, like one day the Earth just swallows them up.

FYI there is a lineup of RTX3000 cards with more VRAM in case AMD pulls something out of it's pocket.

So anyone pre-ordering on the 17th might find their card is replaced before the end of the year with better model? Because thats what the article says as currently only the cheapest models are on sale, while the others are ready to replace them

There is no question about it this generation will be video memory battle not raytracing. :D

Well, I was planning an upgrade at Christmas at the earliest anyway.

Yep, it's just that the winter holidays usually mean roughly 2 weeks at home for me, so they're perfect for trying out new toys!

Same here, but I have my doubts that AMD's CPUs will be around in stock in time for Christmas tbh. Has got nothing to do with Ampere though, since any Super cards or a potential 3080Ti won't be around in January, I guess...
Also my birthday's at the end of January, that's why usually, out of years and years of habit, building time is after the holidays for me :D

AMD missing on Xmas sales would be a big mistake.

We will wait and see. I see no reason to upgrade until all the cards from both are out.

    Happy early Birthday @fantaskarsef !

hehe thanks fellow guru, happy early birthday to you too!

But yeah waiting on reviews ofc, and if I could choose, I'd most likely decide between a 3080Ti (sometime in 2021 if at all) and what AMD gives us with big RDNA2.

So if there is going to possibly be a second higher vram tier of 3xxx coming, it seems like AMD may have some decent cards coming out.

We Will probably see, Ti cards, etc again. Depends on what big navi will offer us consumers..
Isnt there talk about 7nm in the future? This can give ampere a nice boost and maybe cut in production costs? Not that i think nvidia wants to pass possible savings to us containers.. Not willingly at last..

I'm out of the loop, but I think that Ethereum has been the go-to altcoin for miners for some time already.

If it's 3-4 times faster than 2080? Almost undoubtedly. It's hard to imagine they've hoarded enough cards to satisfy both gaming and mining market, especially right at the launch.

It could be a store that sells video cards who also happens to have mining setup in a back room (doesn't look like a large operation) for their own purposes.
