I recently build a PC. First RTX game I launched was Control. It was working fine with and without RTX. Then I updated my GPU driver via GeForce Experience from version 445.87 to 451.67. There were no errors while updating. After that the DLSS option is usable but I can't enable the RTX option. It's greyed out. I really wanted to experience it in RTX. Any help would be much appreciated.
Try manually completely uninstalling all driver ("NVIDIA xxxx ....") components via Programs and Features and also uninstall Geforce Experience. Alternatively download and use Display Driver Uninstaller (available from Guru3D site). Do read documentation before use! Manually reinstall the newer driver, including Geforce Experience if you want it. You can download driver packages via Guru3D site as well or search for them from NVIDIA website.
I have only one display driver(RTX 2060).If I use DDU to uninstall the drivers completely will the GPU work until I install the drivers?
See if the suggestions above resolve your issue first. Nvidia offers an easy way to perform a clean installation of your drivers. Here's how to proceed: - Head to the DOWNLOAD SECTION of the Nvidia website to select and download your driver. - Once you have downloaded the executable, double-click on it to start the installation. - Follow the on-screen instructions until presented with the Installation options window. - Select the box labelled Custom (Advanced) then hit Next. - On the next screen, you will be given a choice of components to install (These should all be ticked by default, and if you are unsure, leave them that way). - Under the Select driver component table, tick the box “Perform a clean installation” and click Next. - Complete the installation, then restart your computer. It will work in the sense you can use your computer but cannot run any games or other 3D applications or use any form of graphics hardware acceleration until you install the proper driver. You will likely have several driver components, uninstall all of them (or use DDU but if you are completely new to PCs I don't recommend DDU as first option): (^ in order graphics driver, HD Audio driver, USB-C driver)
Are you positive? Maybe try using the EXE directly avoiding Steam or what ever other game library software.
I uninstalled the driver from device manager and it went back to 431.60. Now Control works in RTX but when I updated to 451.85 (this time manually with clean installation) the option is grayed out again. I also tried Shadow of Tomb Raider and RTX works in both the version.
RTX works for you in Control on 431.60 but not 451.85 if I got it right? What about 451.77 downloaded from NVIDIA’s website (clean install) ? Also, are all of your windows updates up to date?
I don't recommend uninstalling drivers via device manager, there will be leftover parts that way. The issue sounds like you might have "mixed up" driver installations. So completely uninstall any current driver first and then install the latest.
Yes and no, the side components will remain that handle usb, audio, etc. the display components however will be removed as the uninstall portion in the inf is invoked which runs an nvidia coinstaller.
