Well, smaller node delayed again, and we "wonder" why the chief engineering officer (responsible for 7nm dev) "leaves"? Not really a surprise, heads will roll.
After all, investors took a big dump on Intel over that although their earnings were okay-ish, but the money people's perspective is pretty bad for Intel.

Too much pressure over numbers I guess. AMD pressured Intel and it was not prepared to respond. Seems like rushed decisions ruined 7nm for Intel, rather than skill of personnel to deliver.

So, the one person who would understand how to fix the problem is ordered to leave???

intel executives are the co-pilot, Venkata Renduchintala is Denzil Washington. He might hit the jack daniels and coke before take off, but he is probably the only one who could get this plane on the ground...

just because he has the title of chief engineering officer, does not imply he has any idea how to make engineer anything.

Intels problem is it has people with no competence or skills that fit a position in places that actually require an understanding of the problems at play.

Take heed, Officers being let go at any level are not just sudden rash decisions, his performance up till now would have been a focused factor of why hes being fired.

Apparently there was a significant power struggle as of late, and this guy was fully involved in it.

Sounds to me like a typical corporate company problem. The big boss doesn't want to take the blame and now he is looking for someone to sack.

  9. Christ. What else is new with the corporate ladder in America & the greater rest of the world but we definitely know how to do it better than anybody else

Bob Swan isn't the head of engineering, and Murthy wasn't someone he hired i the first place, he was one of that incompetent Brian Krzanich hires back when he was running intel into the ground by giving the finger to the server and desktop market.

So, what are the odds that Renduchintala re-surfaces at AMD at some point?

I wonder if Jim Keller saw all this coming? And, I'll bet Dr. Su is sleeping quite soundly these days.

  12. Likely was on contract and stuck with them along for the ride; couldn't wait to be done with the drama but that's just my best guess. The guy doesn't strike me as someone to get into disputes, more of a "keeps to the work" fellow.

Would it be bad optics to shareholders for AMD to hire Renduchintala?

One can only piss off so many people at once.
Best decision ever Intel, canning that power hungry douche !

Hopefully they can now restructure and get back on track sooner rather than later.

    False (somewhat).
The engineering and development side of the company is still great. The problem with Intel is in it's upper management, power struggles between C-level jerks.
Cutting funding for opposing team projects, removing brainpower from divisions and moving them to useless tasks only to stifle the opposing departments and make the other C-dude look bad, and so on...

How to fix it? No clue, but this particular person being forced to resign is a good thing. He has caused a lot of distress in the company.
Unfortunately this also means lost time in which the competition doesn't sit still.

From those who know said Jim had a real family illness but this political crap probably made his decision easier.
