Whoa. A 128 PCIe Gen 4 lanes, 8 channel memory with 2TB max. Man those specs. That 12-core one would make an awesome multipurpose machine.

Why is the TDP the same for all models. From 12 core to 64 cores same TDP seems highly unlikely IMO.

The 2920X is actually cheaper than the 3900X.

  9. Nothing shy of more power is enough power - the AMD Threadripper - let her rip baby...

was wondering why they announced no chipset, thanks to level1techs youtube I know
it's oem only, no overclock and will probably be only sold in validated for software x or y computer/racks
for once they really mean pro aka company bought workstations

You got that right these versions of the Threadripper CPUs fixed that stupid RAM limitation nonsense.

Well, TDP is based on base clocks, of which slow down as you go higher in core count. Power consumption isn't proportionate with frequency (especially with Zen) so the numbers aren't too unrealistic. But I agree... still highly unlikely to be the same TDP.

AMD TDP is calculated based on peak cooling requirement, they aren't intel.

The final nail in Intel's Xeon W coffin. Anyone know the lyrics to "The Worms Crawl In, the Worms Crawl Out"? I heard that was to be the main dirge during the funeral.

So, my new workstation, it would seem:

It's too expensive anyway. Even the normal Zen 2 Threadrippers are. So let it be OEM.
They almost doubled the price tags compared to previous generations. Price/Value is the worst. That's where I am disappointed by AMD at this point, so TRX4 is a dead end for me and I am sure for many others too.

Sure you have more cores, so price might be considered still fine, but implying non-pro Threadreapoer is aiming for "enthusiast gamers" (What's that even?) is just wrong.

That's some great news! I believe it would be interesting to see what a 64-core, 128-thread Zen 2 workstation processor can get up to in regard to synthetic benchmarks. The problem I have with it is the price because being in possession of something like the Threadripper PRO 3995WX is not going to be an inexpensive affair. I think there will be many people wondering if it really worths the money you pay, and I would rather have a look at https://canadamonitors.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=69 and compare the systems before purchasing it.
