Ok, that IS epic. Comparing this with Fallout76 right now would be like looking at Doom 1 and Doom 3. Bethesda should be ashamed and just buy UE5 right now to get started on the next TES ( i dont think they really have).
This is really a next step forward, some of the dynamic resolution tech are in the work for a decade.
I had a brain meltdown when they show those color triangles. Like 1 triangle per pixel - really? xD that is photorealism.
Looks really cool. I was amused at them stating "[...] on a Playstation 5" out of marketing reasons ofc, but all I heard was "it runs even on a console" edit: can a mod merge threads, please?
Man, S.T.A.R.A.C is going to go ballistic when he sees this! The lack of dynamic GI in UE4 was a big contention of his.
I felt a similar reaction viewing the tech demo of Half Life 2. While this is photorealistic, the contrast of what came before each of them was so jarring. I see Kool-Aid I tend to drink Kool-Aid
Looks decent. Will developers use it? UE4 was not used nearly as much as UE3 was. And bother suffered from stuttering issues. Has that been taken care of?
Sorry, but I see this... and all I can think is... Didn't we have mind blowing "demos" of what was possible with UE3 and UE4... Like, the Samaritan demo for Unreal Engine 3. And the closest any game came to looking like that demo was Batman: Arkham Knight. And that was 4... 5 years later, on a heavily modified version of the engine. Just saying, this is a tech demo. Not a game demo. Does not in any way this is what games on UE5 will look like.
Does not matter. Games can look like this in two years time we'll have a first UE5 game. You have the hardware and the tools its up to developers now.
It took some years after we saw that demo but it was possible even then. I think Gears of War was the first game to showed that. Look at UE4 elemental demo , many UE4 games look much better today.
The first Gears of War does not look nearly as good as the Samaritan demo. I stand by my opinion that Arkham Knight is the game that came the closest to that level of detail, and that was several years later and on a highly modified version of the engine. As for UE4, the Elemental demo was cool. But, that was also a demo from 2012. And you say many UE4 games look better "today".... 8 years later, would certainly hope so. My point was just people are getting super excited, as if this will change how games are done in the next few months. While it'll be years before developers start properly working this into games, and it drastically changes how artists will approach creating.
Other than finding the face design of the character in the demo disgusting the demo itself is very amazing..... The lighting was very good.
Those demos ran on high end PCs whereas this demo apparently ran on a PS5.....which is incredible if true. It puts real-time dynamic GI in reach of more platforms than anything that is currently out by a country mile.
