NVIDIA Ampere rumored to get four times more Ray-Tracing perf, no more GTX either

I've read elsewhere that DLSS 2.0 will now finally use the tensor cores and not the regular shaders dragging FPS down. That alone should improve performance a lot on both the old RTX 2xxx and the new 3xxx. For me the 3xxx might be the first upgrade I'm interested again. When the GTX 1xxx series was released, tri-SLI on my GTX 980ti was still alive and well. Two 1080ti wouldn't have been much better. When tri-SLI scaling was eliminated in the driver and when one of my 980 died, the 1xxx series was already end of life, and the 2xxx way overpriced.

 

Well if Nvidia expects the tensor cores to be taken seriously, they need to offer a serious improvement. So far, the performance loss isn't worth the visual improvement they offer. Many of the AIs Nvidia is working on are actually legitimately cool and useful, but you don't need tensor cores to do what they do.

There's a lot of potential but Nvidia is proceeding too cautiously, and with too high of an "entrance fee".

 

nVidia can price them however they want and people will buy. They really are the only option for high end gaming. I suspect we will see them out definitely before Cyperpunk comes out. My guess is summer.

 

I wonder how a $300 RTX card will perform or if they are going straight to the XX60 starting at the new low of $500.

 

Anyone expecting this to be cheap are kidding themselves. Nvidia will charge premium.
I'll hold onto my 5700 for at least a year, there needs to be far more raytracing games before I start to think about it, and it needs to be cheaper as well as universal. Not just through Nvidia.

With the amount of cores available we should start seeing more physX type of physics in games too.

 

DLSS 1.9 was the only one that didn't use Tensor.

Tensor are part of cache and memory management in turing.

 

Please don't confuse the real world with a certain "Just buy it" campaign. As much as Ngreedia - and their paid media army are concerned - they cannot set any price and expect people to act like idiots. Back in the real world you should fully expect AMD to take significant gains from Nvidia in this next round.

nVidia got a huge backlash over Turing pricing specially the 2080TI.

They can't pull that stunt again, very few can even afford $500 GPU , many people got hurt thanks to COVID19 and i believe nVidia knows that very well also AMD gonna be competitive as f***.

 

We are at 400$ midrange gpus right now and its amd fault as much as nvidia. The 5700xt is also overpriced for what it is but ofc nvidia takes the cake yet again with 2060/2070's. The bar will rise again when 3060 is introduced and i expect +100$ over 2060. We'll just may buy a damn console and be done with it.

I remember the time when GTX285 was the king. Price was 3xx€. Bought two because I was student and felt rich. Now mid range gpu's cost that or even more. Bought GTX1660Ti few months ago and that felt expensive.

I really hope that mid range gpu's would drop to about 300€ price range. That would need tough competition.

 

Everyone still bought nvidia cards including the 2080Ti so of course they will do it again. It needs a competitive AMD to get them to drop prices which we would all love to see. However this is AMD, they had a huge advantage this time with 7nm vs renamed 16nm for over a year, but instead of making the most of it they instead decided to repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot.

 

I can see the 3060 being $500 but with no cards like the 1650S or 1660/Ti type of cards it would be hard for many to justify the purchase. Also I agree that the 5700XT was over priced for its level of performance which is one of the other reasons I didn't get one recently.

 

Eh... as great as Ray-Tracing is, it will be another 2 or 3 years until we get games that really, really, use it... when the 2nd wave of next-gen titles start to be released.

 

I don't think it will be that long, Cyberpunk is enough for me to jump on board. And I would expect nearly most if not all cross-gen games to have some form of RT added on.

 

Hope the 3080Ti is cheaper than the 2080Ti when it's released. Planning to upgrade my 2080Ti's to 3080Ti's.

And After the Upgrade I will quote the daughter of IronMan. "I Love You 3000".

 

I call it a bs. 17 series (1750 = 1650 Super, 1760 = 1660 Super, 1770 or 1760Ti = on par with 2060?) will definitely exist and be brutally butchered down once Nvidia realize that most consumers can't even afford 3060 (doubt of 3050 existance) or they might choose not to and a hefty chunk of lower-end enthusiasts either wait for Hopper, deal with ridiculous reality and punch themselves in the guts by acquiring 3000 series or inspect RDNA2 offerings.

 

There won't be a 17 series.

 

I don't think they'll have a 17 series this time around considering all cards will support RTX. If there is something like a 1770 or 1760 it should easily beat a 2060, hell an overclocked 1660 Ti is already comparable to a stock 2060 minus the RT features.
