i7-3930K Overclock Question

Hello

I just overclocked my i7-3930K to 4.4GHz @ 1.44V and the temps are about 70C - 80C. During the stress test they go up and come down again and go up and come down again. I was wondering if 1.44V is too much @ 4.4GHz? Also note, that I ran the stress test for a long time and it is stable.

My RIG Specs:

i7-3930K
Corsair 16GB DDR3
Asus P9X79 Deluxe
Corsair Hydro H100i Closed Loop Water cooler
1250 Watt PSU
Coolermaster Cosmos II

 

all depend on chip. use latest prime95 for atleast 3 hours. ur cooler wont handle much.

 

1.44v is kinda too much for an Sandy chip. Temps are also not that great. I would put it back to 4.2ghz 1.39v if stable, thats how i run mine.

 

It is easier to overclock 4930k...

 

It has a higher base clock but it isnt that much easier to overclock. It also isnt that much faster.

 

Still faster and still colder.

 

Ivy chip was hotter and overclocked less than sandy. Idk where are you getting those info.

 

Even despite 22nm versus 32nm?
I went from 3930k to 4930k. Not that I tried hardcore overclock but I tried a bit.

Also SB-E had faulty PCI-E v3 implementation.
Also IB has better memory support.

 

Didnt know if it was a case for Ivy E as well but there it is.

We are disputing in SB-E thread.

 

And...you ware right. I though ivy E used cheap paste as 3770k which was hot and crappy overclocker compared 2600k.

 

And I did not know about hotter IB, because I did use only SB-E and IB-E.

no it didnt.

it was never PCIE V3 certified, 8GT options were present but were at your own risk

On paper. But on launch they discovered some faulty timings or signals.
NVIDIA drivers switched the GPU to PCI-E v2 mode (upon installation) and people were using registry tweak to turn it back to v3 (there was even exe-file created for that).
My rig was affected (while it was with 3930k).

 

on launch it was not certified. my second pc 3930k chip running pcie v3 without any problem through registry 8GT implementation.

 

Mine 3930k too, but fact still remains - there were faulty instances of SB-E.

 

@Undying @mbk1969 got a 1.356v at 4.3GHz...thats the best I could get, but when I go to 4.4GHz I get 1.420v. So I am sticking with 4.3GHz

 

Its not a fault,or it can not run v3 specs, it was not tested for gen3 when it launched.

 

I can tell its better to dial back like that than deal with higher temps with more or less no performance difference between 4.4 and 4.3hz. So its all good.
