Same here mate fixed now,, same config of 1x 144hz screen .. no more flickering

 

known issue with any AMD card (and some nvidia), for them is absolutely fine (...)
workaround is to set desktop to 120hz instead (so you can't achieve 144hz in game that haven't the built-in refresh setting)
nobody explained why 120hz needs only 300mhz vram clock and 144hz needs 2000mhz.. those +24hz are so hungry

 

I'm experiencing rare black screens since 19.12.2 (Vega 56)

Even on windows desktop or while watching a video, the screen turns black for like 5-10 seconds and after that - everything works fine
I have an 144hz Freesync enabled display connected


Does anybody else have seen the same issue ?

 

Known issue isn't it though they don't list Polaris and Vega but it certainly sounds connected, if so reducing the refresh rate down to 60 should be a pretty easy way to verify this if it stops and then increasing it back to where it starts again.

EDIT: And the desktop being GPU accelerated through WDDM / DWM thus D3D11

EDIT: Alternatively disabling enhanced sync if enabled (Though for freesync I guess it's not.) or even disabling freesync because both of these have been a bit buggy/broken back and forth through several 19.x drivers although for freesync I assume it's also heavily dependent on the display itself and how it handles freesync through the display hardware.

There's overrides for the display in the driver settings software for certain things but I'd just skip that and go back to a earlier driver until it's resolved or toggle off freesync if you want to use the driver if that's what it hinges on rather than this known issue.
(Still more to fix from what I'm reading so hopefully 20.1.1 or the first driver of January next year will start working down the known issues in full effect or how to say.)

Black screens are a known issue. I've seen it happen even while browsing. Currently testing the possible fix from post #58...

 

So, you've tested every AMD card? Wasn't stuck with high clocks with my RX480 and not stuck with them with current. Fine even with VSR @ 4K.

Hm seems i already Disabled it, so even with PCI-e link state power management set to off - blackscreens happen (but it's really rare)

 

No need for any of that

 

Can try setting refresh to 120hz. Might be only thing I've not tried, so might have to as well. Maybe we can isolate the issue this way.

 

I'll try when i'm back in the evening, going to friends & gym now, i think i'll be back in about 4-5h ^^

 

nvidia experiences this too which is why they don't drop past low power 3d when 2 high resolution or high refresh screens are connected and operating at their full rate.

 

No issues here, all is good!

 

Anyone here who also has two monitors; one connected to the AMD GPU and the other to the Intel iGPU?
