I don't have enough faith in VR and I don't see enough content available worth playing to make a $1K investment. That could buy (most likely) a PS5 AND a Scarlett. Alyx game looks great. Just not enough to make me purchase all that hardware. I would need 3 or 4 must play games.

When sales are garbage I have a feeling they';; somehow rethink that bs marketing line.

In the long run I think it will sell ok'ish, but nothing like it would have if it were a normal video game.

With it being on Steam at least we will be able to see player numbers, so that will be interesting at least.

VR can be considered a different type of gaming platform. As such, this situation is similar to buying a console to play that console's exclusives - unless that console has several must-play titles, most people won't buy it. I'm sure die-hard Half Life fans would be willing to take the plunge, but I can't see anyone else forking over the equivalent of a high-end GPU to play a single title (not to mention the cost of upgrading to a VR-ready GPU). Of course there may be cheaper VR headsets around, but then you'd have to take the risk of cheaping out and putting up with an inferior experience (or even a paperweight).

I'm guessing that Valve would be okay with mediocre sales for this game; I would imagine that they've done the marketing research beforehand. As long as it opens the door for VR and increases adoption, they'll be happy. It's not as if Valve can't take the hit, lol.

I think that goes for a lot of people, and Half-Life: Alyx is Valve's answer to one out of those three or four questions, so to speak.

    Thought i'd never say it.

But i rather buy Black Mesa than a cough up hundreds of dollars for a VR Headset to play with Alyx.

They should've just risk it all and went with full fat PC release of HL3 instead of this crap. Thats how you make history.

Looks like fun, good thing I got a Rift S.
Everything looks so super flat on my monitor since I have VR so I need some good VR games.

Rift S for €400 or $350 with Black Friday...

Calling it now, 6 months to a year after release Valve will release a non VR version of this game. Assuming the modders don;t get there first.
