X299 only shines when overclocked. When it is, it's kicking ass :D

Stock-clock.net is not my forum :p

The energy bill also shines with very high numbers on it...

Yeah, I cannot understand or imagine someone paying so much money for just having it stock or acting like electricity maniac. OC isn't science since late century.

We have cheap energy in Norway, so we don't care :D That's why we have a big F@H team here in Norway. Team Hardware.no :)

Luckily we have cold winters :p

That is not the generic use of workstations.
A workstation you generally want to buy, even expensive, build, start to work to get back the money.
I do not think most of the people that will buy that cpu, outside world record breakers, will overclock it.

Hopefuly overclocking can help those framerates becouse its getting destroyed by 9900k and 3900x. Not many gonna game on these and TR cpus though.

It can't be slower than the 2 years old 7980xe when overclocked, so it WILL be good. 7980xe overclocked (50ns memory latency) is destroying 3900x overclocked (63ns memory latency) in any scenarioes. Most likely 3950x too. Time will tell, when I'm beching 3950x and 10980xe in some weeks :D
    PS: I have 3900x too ;)

sorry for the off-topic discusssion, just saying, that subject about electric bills is something I see regularly, in which country or usage scenario is it a problem ?

unless you're mining a currency or have it run 24/24 in a company in which case it's your customers that should pay those bills, in the room I'm working there's 150'000watts, not an exageration, of PCs and electronic hardware running 7/7 365/365 lol
electric bills shouldn't be a concern at least not for private usage because considering the prices of pc HW in Europe (sometimes +50% than in the us) someone who can afford a 3900x or 10x intel cares shouldn't care about energy bills, a 3900x + (apparently the only good x570 board according to derbauer recent VRM measurements) the aorus extreme is 1411$ already for me, add everything else if you build from scratch and we're talking about a 3-4k computer easy, if you have that kind of money to throw in a computer you have enough to pay bills no ? I don't know please tell me in which case it becomes a problem ? I have a friend who does pro photo editing and is processing pictures almost nonstop all week he never mentioned the question of bills, must be a local or specific case problem ?!

    back on topic
I'm a big critic of everything (not only amd) when I pay that kind of money (thousands) I want the best not random garbage at a premium price, and what I see here is not selling me the Intel at all, it better overclock or AMD would get my money

I'm with an Asus C6H and about to throw the 3950x in it, but the 10980xe got me thinking if i should just say f&*k it and go intel for once. But seeing these results is making me question did intel drop the prices enough. Sure 50% is something but they're in so deep that even 50% doesn't seem that attractive once you put them head to head again. This cpu will probably overclock with nothing less than some expensive AIO or custom loop..

why is 18 core compared to 12 core? and considering the diffrence between the 2 not that big 999$ cpu vs 600$ the more expensive cpu with 4 more core isnt the much faster

True, though can't compare against the 3950x for a few more weeks (at most, hopefully).

A real mixed bag for intel's top chip vs 3900x.Looking forward to guru3d review to put it all into proper context. Would also like to see how those performance figures scale with faster ram for both chips.

I don't understand the number of people talking about overclocking and gaming. This is not a gaming cpu. Anybody that buys something like this for gaming is an idiot. This is for an entirely different market.

Their 8700K smashed the gaming benchmarks even against the 9900K. Not bad for a 2 year old CPU. I bet it's OC to at least 5GHz though, that Cinebench score is not the stock.

I like when people say `Destroying` for a 10-15% difference.

@Hilbert Hagedoorn the article says the 3900x having 50% less cores, the truth is that the intel cpu has 50% core more than the 3900x, but the 3900x has 33% core less than intel.

I'm a idiot, because I gaming on a 7980xe delidded @ 4800mhz and 4000c16 memory. 51ns memory latency. It's faster than my 3900x in all games that are cpubound. 9900k is still a bit faster with 39ns mem latency.

    PS: My 7980xe is my workstation, so I don't game 24/7 ;)
