Is this NAS limited by the hardware inside of it as per it's throughput, or is it the "hardware" being placed in it that is the limiting factor?

Love to get my hands on one of these for my new setup and for the house! Slap in a bunch of high capacity SSD's in raid and never worry about storage throughput for white some time...

Is cheaper to buy this kind of Nas or just to build a PC and install let's say freenas on it? I use to have one of those freenas at home and it was pretty stable and fast (considering the crappy old hardware)

NAS nowdays isnt just about the hardware
so u should considering the software side... its more like a package

we can build simple NAS cheap enough
and for people that using it for simple media-box, back-up, network storage... probably its should be enough

but when u need more than that, such VM and including other service support, buying NAS it just far hassle free
u should try NAS live.demo... look especially those packages/apps they offer
    https://demo.synology.com
    https://www.qnap.com.cn/en/live-demo/
    https://www.asustor.com/live_demo
i think most NAS maker have their own live.demo

If u now your way around installing an OS and running some command line programs for setting up things, u can build the same for around a third of the price. And u will get a lot of flexibility to install and run whatever the heck u want unlike some private NAS OSs (qnap I'm looking at u) where u need special versions of the software or have to workaround unwanted hardcoded settings.
