    Looks lovely. But I wonder if controller is in base PCB or in memory device itself and therefore there are naked PCIe lanes.

    I imagine, like previous memory cards, there would be an external [PCIe-based] controller.

    Who said it did? Granted, I do realize that I made a mistake saying it was smaller than microSD, which it isn't.
    You can't do NVMe for SD cards (at least, it wasn't built to take advantage of it). There are plenty of applications that demand high-speed memory. In particular, high-speed cameras, high-quality 4K cameras, and professional photographers. Having so much performance and capacity in such a tiny package will be a major interest to professionals, who might need to swap out storage more often or want redundancy.
