AMD Readies Larger 7nm "Navi 12" Silicon to Power Radeon RX 5800 Series?

AMD is developing a larger GPU based on its new "Navi" architecture to power a new high-end graphics card family, likely the Radeon RX 5800 series.
The codename "Navi 12" is doing rounds on social media through familiar accounts that have high credibility with pre-launch news and rumors.
The "Navi 10" silicon was designed to compete with NVIDIA's "TU106," as its "XT" and "Pro" variants outperform NVIDIA's original RTX 2060 and RTX 2070, forcing it to develop the RTX 20 Super series, by moving up specifications a notch.

Refreshing its $500 price-point was particularly costly for NVIDIA, as it was forced to tap into the 13.6 billion-transistor "TU104" silicon to carve out the RTX 2070 Super; while for the RTX 2060 Super, it had to spend 33 percent more on the memory chips.
With the "Navi 12" silicon, AMD is probably looking to take a swing at NVIDIA's "TU104" silicon,
which has been maxed out by the RTX 2080 Super, disrupting the company's $500-700 lineup once again, with its XT and Pro variants.
There's also a remote possibility of "Navi 12" being an even bigger chip, targeting the "TU102."

I thought Navi 12 was supposed to be the low end chips and Navi 20 the high end sku.

Will be interesting to see what AMD can deliver for hardware in 2020 and on going by some of these but we'll see what happens as there's still a lot of work from a patent to a full featured product utilizing said tech.
Bit of everything both for GPU and CPU far as I can tell from what little I do understand, CPU HBM seems to be a thing as well probably for newer APU's although HBM prices are still a concern last I knew but it probably has several benefits too.

Then a bit of everything from performance and power and features which yeah I don't have the best understanding of this sort of thing but it looks neat but for the moment it's just a lot of patents for what might or might not see use somewhere down the line in future hardware products in some form which might nor might not change as engineering and testing starts on these, liking what I am reading though but realization could be different. :)

    Even Better HBCC :p
I will update my GPU only for ATI with HBM....
    IMhO 8GB HBM2 + HBCC is enough for 1440p for a long time ;)

So they can fit into 499€ price easily.

    Navi 5700-5700XT 299-350€ (Polaris replacement)
    Navi 5800? 399-499€ (Vega 64/56 replacement)
    Navi 5900? 649-699€ (New Behemoth)

AMD’s Lisa Su claims that high-end 7nm NAVI GPUs are on the way

    AMD recently released the first two graphics cards based on the 7nm NAVI architecture;
the AMD Radeon RX 5700XT and the AMD Radeon RX 5700. However, it appears that the red team is preparing a high-end GPU that will be released soon.

During AMD’s Q&A call, Lisa Su stated that high-end models based on the NAVI architecture are coming, though there is still no ETA on when they will arrive.

“I would say they are coming.
You should expect that our execution on those are on track and we have a rich 7nm portfolio beyond the products that we have currently announced in the upcoming quarters.”

Interestingly enough, the codename “Navi 12” was doing rounds on social media earlier last week,
suggesting that the red team is currently working on a larger GPU that may be called Radeon RX5800.

Samsung plans to launch SoCs with AMD graphics tech in two years

During the company's Q2 2019 earnings call, Samsung has confirmed that its plans with AMD's Radeon graphics tech will reach beyond mobile SoCs.
Furthermore, Samsung stated that they expect their first chips to feature AMD graphics tech will launch in two years.

Samsung hopes that the "GPU competitiveness" of AMD will enable Samsung to enhance the performance of its mobile SoCs and other applications.
This grants the company a competitive edge over its rivals. AMD will also benefit from this deal through Samsung's technology licensing fees and royalties.
These fees will, in turn, provide AMD with the funding they need to improve their technology offerings further.
This deal will give Samsung access to powerful graphics technology while enabling AMD to profit from a market that it's Radeon graphics technology would otherwise be unable to access.
Samsung can build stronger hardware, and Radeon gets placed into the hands of more customers, everybody wins.

"To answer your second question about our AMD partnership.
As you know, AMD has been a leader, especially in the GPU area since the early days of the PC market and is one of the leaders in terms of technology.
We think that with this partnership, we will be able to leverage the GPU competitiveness of AMD to enhance the performance of not only our mobile SOCs, but also in other applications.

But considering the usual time it takes to vet out IT technology, we expect that the GPU technology will start being adopted in products that will be launched two years down the road roughly."

AMD's deal with Samsung marks a turning point for both companies, showcasing AMD as a company that can provide mobile-ready graphics components while enabling Samsung to gain a competitive edge in the mobile graphics market.
Before the release of AMD's RDNA architecture, the company was often criticised for the relatively high power consumption of Radeon graphics products.
Now, Samsung's confidence in AMD's IP shows us that things are changing, which is good news for gamers everywhere, but it on consoles, mobile and PC.

    The Fat XFX :p
    8+6 Pin (2.5 Slot GPU)

The Radeon RX 5700 THICC2 graphics cards would feature a 2.5 slot design and a black colored shroud with silver linings along the sides and around the fan cutouts.
There are more fan blades than the previous variant (11 vs 9) and we can spot the XFX branding on almost all ends of the graphics card.
There’s one XFX branding logo on the rear of the card which may feature lighting through integrated LEDs. The R200 series variants did feature white-colored LEDs.

Rick Bergman rejoins AMD as Senior Leadership Team as EVP of Computing and Graphics

AMD has announced that Rick Bergman is rejoining AMD to become the company's executive vice president of Computing and Graphics, taking the position of Dr Sandeep Chennakeshu, who plans to leave AMD at the end of this month.

In his new role, Bergman will be responsible for AMD's high-performance PC, gaming and semi-custom businesses, where his experience with S3 Graphics, ATI Technologies and AMD will no doubt be invaluable.

This quarter marks a time of growth for AMD, where the company is due to gain both CPU and GPU market share thanks to the addition of the company's latest 7nm products.
Furthermore, AMD's graphics division is also set to see success through Sony/Microsoft's next-generation console platforms and Samsung's plans to add AMD/Radeon graphics tech into their mobile SoCs.

Right now, Bergman seems like the ideal candidate to lead Radeon into the future, as unlike Chennakeshu, Bergman has plenty of experience within the PC graphics market, having worked for AMD, ATI and S3 Graphics.
Bergman's management experience within these businesses, as well as his work within Texas Instruments, IBM and, more recently, Synaptics, place him an ideal candidate for leadership within today's AMD.
