All core clock of 4.5GHz is way outside power efficiency zone for 7nm Zen2 and 16C/32T may easily eat some 250W there. I would stay at 4.1~4.2GHz depending on actual behavior.

The update being written tomorrow will basically be

"Install the latest AB bios and this chipset driver"

just wait and see. (happy to be wrong of course, but i've asked around and there isn't a new bios being prepared)

I am waiting to see and hear from AMD themselves rather than downloading random stuff from the internet. Thanks anyway. ;)

Yes of course, I am talking about max OC for benchmarks , we saw that 16C ES was only capable 4.3Ghz max clock on WC- similar to 3900X, so maybe the 3950X will be able to hit ~4.5Ghz max, but for 24/7 I think PBO will be enough[105W will limit 16C so PBO will be more effective then on lower core parts].

I don't think this is very likely, you'd have to turn every part of the core on to do this and that never happens.

Thanks for the in depth reviews on the Ryzen 3700/3900 proc's.
    i skipped the 2600 series,keeping my 1700 'till now :).....
just ordered my Ryzen 3700x for £299 :), keeping my Hero v1 for the moment... just updated the bios and AMD drivers.
thanks for your hard work Hilbert, all the best from Glasgow :)

So....your saying the 9900k should be twice as fast as the 7700k.....i`d like to see the proof, given that most reviews ive looked at comparing the 7700k vs 8700k vs 9900k show very little performance gain as far as gaming is concerned.

I had considered moving from my 7700k to the 9900k but so far have found no convincing reviews or evidence that says its a worthy upgrade for gaming...a few fps at most, i also considered the Amd 3700x/3800x and the 3900x paired with an Asus 570 prime board since getting my Corsair MP600 2tb but it looks like its a trade off....faster read/write speeds on my MP600 but lower fps in gaming not to mention the confusing mess with compatible memory, in all the years ive been using intel cpu`s ive never heard anyone mention memory latency so much as Amd users...its the main thing holding me back.

    You'll have a blast !

I did exactly the same. Kept the X370 board, changed just R7 1700 to R7 3700x, and man, it's so much faster !
Those extra 500-700Mhz + IPC improvements can really be felt !

(Well some people have been lucky with their 1700 and it worked just fine at 4.0 -all cores-, mine unfortunately didn't, 3.7 was the highest it was stable, or 3.8 with uncomfortable voltages and power consumption)
New 3700x boosts to 4.4-4.5 (with PBO+100, sX5) and sustains all-core clocks of 4.2 ... so quite a lot more work done every second !

I'm guessing it's less of an upgrade for people with 1800X, but for ex-1700 owners it is definitely noticeable !

(Oh, and I upgraded RAM too, from 3000-CL16 to 3733-CL16 (3600 with a bit of OC), to avoid any memory and IF bottlenecks and let it run as fast as it can)

Way to seriously necro a thread and not provide any useful information while doing it. Good job!

it's like you didn't even read what the original post and recommendations were about anything. None of this had anything to do with a 7700k or a 9900k, that's what the nonsense the other guy posted was about.

It had to do with a 4790K@4.6 vs a 3700x and that's it. And never once did i say it'd be twice as fast in gaming.

Just to, you know, allow you to read what you were actually necroing a thread for. But to make this clear: I never said gaming when referencing twice, and guess what? Not everything is about gaming! Wow! Surprising right?

There is no reason to oc the current 3000 series cpus. They do a good enough job on that front themselves. The most improvement to be gained is from fine tuning the ram and making sure the clocks are on a 1:1:1 ratio or have a fast enough ram to overcome the latency hit when ram clock speed exceeds 1900 or 1866 for most. Latency plays more of a role with AMD given the Ryzen cpus versus Intel. That is why one hears more about latency. And there is no longer any of this ram compatibility mess with the 3000 series. Samsung B-die is still king; sadly not in production anymore.
