NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER (Founder/Reference) review

This card matches my 980 Ti SLI.

Will be upgrading next gen though

 

LOL, would be a sorry state if writing reviews had to be done with the same care a politician has to do when releasing statements. I seriously doubt anyone who is familiar with Hilberts light-hearted writing style would be offended. Having said that, the reviews go out beyond the forum, to a world-wide audience. This imo is more important as far as the wording is concerned. G3D is viewed as a serious and reputable site and here wording can influence perceptions on that front.

 

The 2080 was recommended at the time of writing, HH can't predict the future.
I think the "villain" here is Nvidia, which has basically released the third iteration of 1080ti in the span of 2+ years.

 

I have RTX 2080 and I lol when I read that part and thought it was the best part of the review.Also thanks for all the reviews.

 

BAH, it's not such a big deal, we all make our own choices here with regard to what we buy & when, it's not anyone else's responsibility, and besides no one really knows exactly what NVidia and AMD plan to release & when.

On a practical level I don't think RTX 2080 owners would have buyers remorse, as this product is only 9% better. It's possible that RTX 2060 & RTX 2070 could have a little remorse, given that the super versions of both of those cards are more like 20 percent faster (and cheaper? can't remember). But, then again, buying any of the Turing GPUs was a bit of monetary value nonsense if you already had a Pascal card.

 

lol I wouldnt worry too much about it.. everyday you wait to upgrade there will always be something newer, better, faster? out there regardless of price.

What would "suck" is if you bought a non-Super card for full price before the Super and you're not within the return window... or what sucks more is if you bought a 2070 at $500+ and the 2070 Super being a bigger bang for your buck upgrade comes out at the same price point.

If you bought it when it first came out (like I did) who cares as long as you had fun playing games with it and enjoying yourself making your money's worth.

Yeah I really don't see the point in this card, like others have said the 2070 S is where your bang for your buck is at.

Son, I am disappoint. I really thought this was going to be closer to the 2080ti and might be worth an upgrade over the 1080ti but not for 8-12 fps at UW1440p., no way. A three year old card and the only real upgrade will cost $1200, what a bummer. If someone is looking for a new card now with an older card this is great news though!

 

4fps at the worst, 10fps at the best hmmmmmmmmm......

 

It's a nice card, in terms of value it crushes the 2080ti at that price range, think there was only a big gap whilst at 4k on some games... that said, it's just a small jump up from the last offerings. Nothing amazing for previous owners of either top end 10XX or 20XX series, which in some ways is fine .... save some money... Guess im curious about what the 3000 series will bring and what the full fat amd card will offer at this stage.

Right now i'm waiting on a card that offers around 70-100% more performance than my 1080ti before i make another jump, the 2080ti is more around 20-30% depending on the game

Yeah, and that card for it's price just isn;t worth it for just a small jump, Hopefully the 3080ti or whatever they call it won't be as insanely priced... or least have the performance increase show the price. can't say i'd mind it being 1200-1500, if it gave 80-100% more performance over last years model

 

Moreover, the 2070 Super is also an absolutely poop priced GPU. And yes, again, a 2080 Super gets a Recommended reward... interesting. I think it's absolutely NOT recommended.

 

The problem with this post is that you are accusing Hilbert of not looking into the future. When he gave out that recommendation post it was given at the time thinking it would last until 7nm nvidia.

I'm sure a lot of people who bought 2080, 2070 and especially 2060 now feel like chumps considering what nvidia has done with fire fighting navi.

The fact of the matter was the 2080 was the dumb card of the entire range when the 2000 series came out, if you want to go big, go big and spend big money on 2080ti for 3840x gaming.

With the 2070 Super the 2080 proved to be even a bigger waste of time one notch below that. and the 2080S just continues the trend, it adds not much for a huge amount of money still. This sat in no mans land.

So in summary people are chumps if they bought the 2080 card at that price. They are still chumps for buying the 2080S card now. It adds nothing.

It is no 4400ti and it is not a 970GTX

The bang per buck ratio is horrible.

 

So, nearly 50% more expensive than 2070S and 100% than 5700XT, yet what does it offer? No 1440p144, no 1440p120 either, while 2070S and 5700 XT are enough to play at 1440p60. All of them can't offer stable 2160p60 gameplay.

 

What can a $500 x70 buyer say... Got triggered?

 

Super cards summary:
2060S looks like a mistake. Slower than 5700XT at same price.
2070S big winner - near 2080 performance at $500. (bit faster than 5700XT so reasonably costs a little more).
2080S less than expected diff vs 2080, not worth the premium over the 2070S.

 

Don't know i would 100% not recommend the 2080 Super if i was a reviewer. If you want the best and money is not a concern then buy the 2080Ti. If you "cheapen out" (nVidia style) then get the 2070 Super or try to find a 2080 on sale. We all know new cards will be released within the next 6 to 8 months anyway (maybe sooner if AMD surprises everyone with a more competitive than expected 5800XT before 2020). I don't see the point of this card personally. Where i live the cheapest non blower 2080 is 859$ while the cheapest non blower 2080 Super is 989$. That's a pretty big price difference. By the time the 2080 disappear we will be closer to a new lineup of cards. I would actually not recommend this card at all.

 

The high end is the 2080Ti. If money is no concern the 2080Ti is the place to go.
