What resolution do you game at?

I have a 4K monitor and have been trying to do 4k gaming, but I'm finding it kind of hard to do in newer titles. Especially if I want bootleg ray-tracing effects ..."enabled"...that glimmer a barely noticeable improved shadow against one wall from certain angles when standing still and inspecting said wall.

Some titles without RT are still hard to do in 4K. Division 2, Destiny 2, FF15..

Starting to think I need to bust out my old 2K monitor and use that for a while. Just hard to go back from a higher resolution after using it for so long. But the improved frame rate should be nice. And it got me wondering, what does everyone here game @?

Also the conundrum of ...do you lower resolution, or details in settings? I think I'd prefer a game maxed out and lower resolution.

 

1440p for last year and a half. I never lower resolution but I lower settings as much as I can without really affecting image quality, so it varies a lot from game to game.

 

I have both a 2160p (4K) monitor and a 1440p (2.5K) monitor, and I usually prefer the latter.

 

I only game at 4k these days, will not be going back. For me, resolution is like HDR. Once you've seen it, cannot go back

No 4K untill a single 70 series card can 60 FPS with all bells and whistles on.

 

2K? I'm triggered now 1440p is 2.5K. 1080p is 2K.

4k - won't ever go back to lower resolutions, no matter what the performance is like. Resolution is what makes by far the biggest difference in terms of graphics imo.

But with next upgrade i will go to 4k 144 hz, rather than 8k 60 hz.

 

1620p (dsr 2.25×) on a 1080p curved display.

 

For me, refresh rate is more important than resolution and knowing I can't afford a 4k 144hz setup; I am currently at 1440p 165hz. Some say 165hz is just a gimmick - but the difference can be noticeable, albeit not great. I would sacrifice settings over resolution. No point having maxed out setting if you don't have all the pixel to experience its glory.

btw. I was considering 4K monitor a few times but I'm not jumping ship until NVIDIA implements integer scaling.

 

1440p or "2.5K" @ 144hz. That's the sweet spot if you ask me.

Intel is going to implent this in their future GPUs.

 

One thing that helps greatly with running games at 1080p of a 1440p monitor is ReShade with only the Lumasharpen shader active. The result is surprisingly good. If you weren't looking closer, you'd thing you're using a 1080p display.

 

i assume having 1440p is a major advantage in case ur suffering like me with jaggies, the higher the resolution the lesser the use of AA implementation, my next monitor will be a 1440p one

I would agree. Back when I had a 27 inch 1080p, I had to bump up the sharpening to make it look bearable. However, one of the downsides is if you have Overdrive on, or Tracefree for Asus, the ghosting can make the images look ugly. At least it was for the monitor I had, granted it was a cheap one.

 

I play at native resolution of my LCD monitor.

 

1080p for now.
