I'm a sucker for good gameplay, so yeah i don't care about ray-trace reflections or 4xTAA or whatever. Just gimme 80fps and interactive worlds to explore. (AC Odyssey i'm lookin at you.)

Crysis had a decent campaign, i wouldn t call it terrible, it has that grandioso finale and it plays out like a micheal bay film, The Rock, i m looking at you

Terrible is definitely unfair, and it starts well but it it goes downhill quicker than any game I remember.

about the mid way mark is where crysis fell off the rails, from those open levels where you could play with the suit powers to the linear sections and on rails bits. final boss battle was ok i guess. but the first few levels were great. but once the aliens come in it is over for that game.

Honestly I think RDR2 on PS4, maybe the framerate isint great, but I can't see gfx improving much beyond that.
It's not perfect, it doesn't have Ray tracing but other than Witcher 3 which is heavy on the gpu I don't see gfx getting much better other than very minor improvements that have a huge gpu processing cost.

Improvements from next gen are going to be minor and it's about time more focus was put on physics and AI.

It was not terrible just average. First two levels ware decent and i also liked the snow levels.
People made it a benchmark and forget to play it.

    Diminishing returns.

Ever since Crysis (or pick a data point), the improvements have been smaller and harder to notice.

Me, I played "Adventure" on Atari 2600 as my first "RPG". I have noticed some small improvements over the years that all eventually lead to Cyberpunk.

I disagree, it's a lot more varied this generation, especially compared to the 360/PS3 years, during which a lot of games had this 'Gears of War' tone and look to them (especially in color tones, looking gritty and/or somber and gloomy).

But I'd say since around the release of the Wii U (Nintendo and their devs significantly contributing in making more colorful, vibrant and simply adorable looking games) along with the PS4 and XBOne things have been a lot better this time (this gen). Sure, many devs often attempt to go for that usual, rather generic 'Photo Realistic' approach (as much as they can anyway) and when that happens then whatever the type of game they're making it's always going to have a similar feel from one another since the methodology and the 'art style' chosen for said games was essentially the same. But outside of cases like that I think that video games in general this generation have been visually very varied, you just have to look for different games. Don't just stick with modern and generic shooters and you'll already see a LOT of improvement.

If anyone thinks graphics are stagnant I think it's mostly because they just happened to play a few games in row that may be genuinely similar to each other (because yes it can happen, but it doesn't represent the majority enough to claim that it's something along the lines of a universal issue with video gaming in general), but that's just coincidence. You can't possibly play hundreds of games spread across multiple platforms and claim it's that generally stagnant across the board. There's a lot more unique games that visually distinguish themselves from each others than there are that look similar, especially nowadays with so many platforms to choose from.

Naturally. There's diminishing returns. Going from 1000 polygons to 2000 makes a huge difference. But once the numbers are huge, the difference isn't staggering anymore. Back then, if you doubled the detail in a scene, the difference was night and day. To get the same effect now, you have to have something like a 5-fold increase in detail.

Maybe that's what nvidia was thinking with RTX. Maybe we did reach the end of raster graphics after all. They can't possibly produce a GPU that's 5 times faster than the previous one.

Edit: Or maybe I'm just talking out of my ass. That's a possibility too :p

    Agreed.
The first five or so levels were pretty good. They were open enough to mask their linear design.
But, once you reach the caves... the game falls apart. At that point it's a corridor to a narrow zero gravity corridor. Then, a tight, narrow snowy path. An escort mission, an on rails vehicle turret section... an AWFUL flying mission. And finally, a bland, poorly designed and paced final location with not a very "meh" final boss, and no real ending.

I still prefer Crysis 2 and 3 over the first one.
I know how blasphemous that statement is among PC gamers... but I don't care. I had more fun with them.

Crysis 2 is a more safe bet game design with good story, it s a linear shooter hidden in the vertical progression given to the level design, crysis 3 is a better game in that regards, and especially graphics wise

I kind of always hated Crysis. Not because it's a bad game or anything. I played many years later, and it's quite good. I hated it because when I tried to run it on a mid-range PC of the time when it first came out, it ran so horribly that I thought the people who made it didn't have a clue how to program on PC. Yes, I was young and ignorant back then, but the feeling stuck with me to this day.

It wasn t optmized very well tbh, i remember spending hours and hours tweaking the cfg file to extract the extra bit of performance of fps

I think Crysis 2 was my favourite. Number 3 was so bad I uninstalled it and I usually complete all fps games as it's one of my favourite genres but I got to a point in that game that I just was not feeling it, level design was awful, didn't feel rewarding, more like hope for the best and take advantage of exploits to make it.

Saying that I did the same with Battlefield 5, the 2nd campaign was buggy with crap enemy AI. I think I fell through the floor at one point.

What did you guys saw in the Crysis 2, game was a mess. When it came out it was DX9 only. Game was made for consoles. Felt so closed and linear witch a broken suit and very bad unnecessary skill progression. I could farm aliens for an hour and be upgraded to the max in middle of my game.

Dont me even start about the ****** up story. Nomad is dead, Prophet is dead and Psycho is missing while some random dude (Alcatraz) is now prophet? omg...

Personally, Crysis 2 is my favorite as well.
Personally, I found the city setting far more engaging and interesting then the jungle. The visual style got my eye more thanks to be stylized, it game the series it's own look. While the first game was just "We look so real" it was actually a bit forgettable.

Also, they finally made the Nanosuit actually feel powerful. In the first game, the suit was wasted. Look at all these awesome powers... that last about three seconds.
They would not be a functional or useful item for a soldier in a real conflict. What good is an armor mode that allows you to take two or three extra hits? Cloaking that lasts a few seconds... weeee.

It's all about personal preference, but, Crysis 2 ticked the boxes of what I wanted from the first game.
The first game, is horribly paced, awful dialog and forgettable characters.

I think you (pl.) are drifting apart, i thought this thread is/was about graphics and not how you feel about a game, what you like or dislike.
