Ran into this recently and thought it is actually pretty neat: https://www.moddb.com/mods/doom-remake-4 https://www.moddb.com/mods/doom-remake-4/downloads/dr4 Probably the best effort so far to "remake" og Doom. 3D models are quite decent and stay true to the sprites they replace. Quality varies but thinking of them as going for that neo-retro look they're ok. Texture quality is mismatched so far as not all materials are PBR yet but getting there. Gameplaywise I think balancing is almost perfect though, pacing is vanilla but a few bits and bobs have been taken from Brutal Doom. Give this one a whirl if you fancy seeing a HD Doom! EDIT: changed link to a working one
The modernization of the graphics looks a bit out of place. I'm waiting for Prodeus, which pretty much seems to be exactly what I would want from a modern Doom game that keeps the feel of the original: https://store.steampowered.com/app/964800/Prodeus
Yep I'm very much looking forward to Prodeus as well. Granted the Remake isn't really fully "authentic" but like said from what I've seen it's the best / not too bad. Something cool about playing old Doom with new bells and whistles.
Thanks, grabbing this now! By the power of greyskull!!!!!! THIS LOOKS EPIC!!! added to my wish list, I didn't even know about this game! Thanks! Loving Ion Maiden so far, itching for its final release. I love these new old school shooters Any more I should know about?
Dusk, Wrath Aeon of Ruin, Amid Evil, Project Warlock from the top of my head. We're living fps renaissance!
Already got Dusk and love it, not finished it yet though. Just got Amid Evil today actually and its awesome, the level design is superb! Will check the others out when I get the chance, cheers.
Yeah Dusk is f-ing great, haven't finished it either though but that's just because I keep jumping from game to game. Wrath isn't out yet but something to wishlist: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1000410/WRATH_Aeon_of_Ruin/ Project Warlock can be found from Steam or GOG. Do note it's a pixel-art style game so even if it uses modern graphics tricks the overall visual style is more akin to Wolf3D than say Quake. Gunplay is great, however as a whole I like it the least when compared to Dusk, Ion Maiden. Level design for example takes a bit too much cue from Wolf3D too where most levels have no verticality at all.
FYI in case anyone is still interested, the mod has been re-uploaded on ModDB and repackaged so the copyrighted material is now removed (apparently "Doom Remake" name and some logos): https://www.moddb.com/mods/doom-remake-4 OP also edited
