I love the circles in squares. Boss, I would really love to see performance difference on Ryzen 3000 series between different chipsets. Would be really awesome to see X470 vs X570 numbers in initial Ryzen 3000 reviews. I just can't justify the cost of X570 for my mere needs. Thank you!
I concurr. Would really love to see the comparison since I don't fancy PCIe 4.0 right now, and I honestly want to avoid a fan on my heatsink for no apparent reason.

You are right. 3900X compatibility is not with power hungry PCIe 4.0 based chipset, it is with sufficient VRMs able to handle current spikes under different conditions and able to dissipate heat form average current which goes through them. Chipset eats more as can be seen on increased power draw on shown PCIe 4.0 based M.2 drives. This actually means that CPU itself will eat more in PCIe 4.0 mode than it will in 3.0 mode. So again, VRMs will have bit easier time as B450 board is unlikely to enabled for PCIe 4.0. - - - - Side note: Most of those chipset fans are designated to work as blowers. And some of those have exhaust to M.2 drives, therefore they keep them cooler too.
570 is not compatible with 1st gen ryzen? I was expecting to be able to put my old 1600x in a cheap 570 board as a cheap home server upgrade
What exactly is the upgrade there? You wouldn't have PCIe4 on a non-3000 CPU, and cheap boards also don't come with any fancy features like Wifi 6 or 2.5G/5G ethernet.

I'm still confused why AMD hasn't mentioned anything about B550. I'm very confident that would have been their most appealing chipset: something that takes advantage of PCIe 4.0 but has a passive cooler, is more suitable for smaller form-factors, and is more affordable. It'd be a little weird if they put it off until the 16-core chip is released, since I don't think most people who would buy one of those will want a B550.
Perhaps the bigger chips are being released first. I am sure their partners would like to sell x570 boards for the high end chips, something I would generally recommend. If I recall correctly, the other Ryzen's the had the higher end chips first.
Yes that's most likely it (though confusingly, that makes me wonder why the 16-core chips aren't being released first too) but for each generation, AMD announced all chipsets, including ones that we pretty much never saw, like the A300. They're usually pretty good at mentioning what will eventually exist, even if they don't specify the product name. So that's what's throwing me off - they haven't said anything at all about chipsets lesser than X570. Kinda leads me to believe they might not exist.
well i would like to see a comparison of b350 x370 b450 ad x470 against x570 to be honest, because from b350 to x470 there wasnt any difference with ram at 3200 cl 14 on my ryzen 2700x
Them not existing might be a good guess. I think they plan on keeping the following scheme: X570 = cutting-edge, PCIe 4, up to 16 cores easily X470 = good enough, may get some form of PCIe 4, all gens compatibility, up to 16 cores as well B450 = budget friendly, PCIe 3, all gens compatibility, maybe up to 12 cores depending on quality? So, looking at this, I would guess they may be ditching the A series for this generation and simply focusing on these three tiers of MBs.
It really grinds my gears when m/b manufacturers use vrms as an excuse going to the extreme that as far the vrms are not up to snuff to deliver power and not die in few months on the 12 core one they just do not release bios for the whole lineup.....there are 95 and 65 and 105 watt cpus that work on b350 and x370 mb ... If the tdp of an overclocked 3900 is too much fine put huge warnings about and support the rest of the lineup ...or the vrms are not up to snuff to feed the 65watt tdp 3600 but they do just fine on the 65 watt 1600 s?also support the 2700x that is 105 tdp.... If the tdp is not up to snuff indeed then they are selling mb's with sub par vrms already no? My next mb will be from the ventor that will support the most 3xxx cpus on the most motherboards pre-released of em....
