Damn. I really wish I've waited. Now I must suck it up and endure with the performance stealing security patches from Intel and Microsoft :( Might as well learn how to delid and overclock it this time

No word on 16 core.. hmm 3950?
Looks like they upped the price point on the 12core from 449 to 499 as well.

I presume that 16+ cores are left for threadripper.

    p.s.Lisa rules them all

Most likely yields not good enough yet for the required clock speeds on all 8 cores per chiplet. To be fair the that was the rumor the last couple of weeks and that 16 core would be more likely to come Q4.

The 3800X seems useless. Is it really just a 100mhz boost increase? And at $399 for 8 core and $499 for 12 core, who would want that and not spend the extra $100 for 50% more cores?

I was hoping for more cores in general but no reason for AMD to give them away when they are the clear leader vs Intel, pricing included.

or there i a chance they left it out for the refresh 4xxx series in 9 months to a year ?

kind of like the 1800x was :p and most likely the 3700x will oc as well

How many memory channels will there be?
    2 channels
    4 channels?
Memory Speed to Buy? ( For quality and performance? )

That info is easy to find :) 2 channel 3200 dual slot, 2666 4 slot (official amd/jedec)
    aand XMP is XMP

The 3800X is the most interesting processor I think when it comes to gaming - showing single & multithreaded performance the same (or just slightly above) a 9900K. The fact that single thread performance is equal to a 9900K is very impressive, especially as AMD is at only 4.5Ghz vs the 5.0Ghz of Intel. Not only that, it's also at a lower power consumption than the 9900K - so it will be easier to cool - it might mean that the 3800X will overclock to a greater performance than an overclocked 9900K, but we'll have to see on that front as historically there hasn't been hardly any overclocking headroom of Ryzen CPUs. Last but not least it's about $90 cheaper than a 9900K. Given the high single thread performance of the 3800X I'm expecting it to game as well as the 9900K, that was always the weak point of Ryzen CPUs - let's see how they stack up in high refresh rate gaming testing!

EDIT: Actually, 3700X will be the most interesting gaming CPU as it's the same CPU as the 3800X in terms of silicon but is cheaper, but only if it overclocks pretty much as well as the 3800X - we'll see.

They are holding up some stuff for sure, they will release a 16 core 3000 series CPU in the following months, they always keep a few ace's up their sleeves to counter any new stuff intel will offer.
    Interesting times

It is an range of clock. TDP itself decides how many cores can keep clock under different workloads. Before BIOS had option to override maximum power draw. Unfortunately agesa 0.0.7.2 does not have it there anymore. I hope that BIOSes for Zen2 will have it back and return other performance related tweaks as I am not in mood to set custom PStates one by one as it is pretty time consuming to test them properly.

3700X equals 9700K in single thread? 3800X equals 9900K in games? God bless them. :)

not likely, they just aren't ready to do 16 core Ryzen 9's yet.

Threadripper will probably start at 24cores and up if they happen to release this generation.

Ryzen 9 3950x looks reasonable to replace TR 2950X, wha else they can name the 16c part? 3990x?

Naming itself hints that there will not be 16C/32T part.
If naming was according to Zen(+) there would be 65W Ryzen 7-3700 and 105W Ryzen 7-3700X. Then 12C/24T would be Ryzen 9-3800 and 3800X depending on power target, leaving space for 16C/32T as Ryzen 9-3900(X).

It is unlikely to see 16C/32T in AM4 socket even with Zen 2+. Maybe some ES in hands of few people as AMD can make them without extra effort.

There will be a 16 core part when its time.

I meant it for AM4 socket. Can't deny possibility that it may happen. But naming hints otherwise + Zen 3 is on AM5 w/ DDR5.

GN confirmed that MB vendor testing 16C parts, but looks like the high demand for full 8C chiplets from EPYC delays the launch of 16C AM4 and TR 3000.
They made such expensive X570 boards for a reason :).
